From article in the OP:

He said hair from the victims was brought back to Jefferson County to prove to Sam Mullet, the bishop of the Bergholz group, that Mullet's orders concerning the hair cutting was being followed.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...rs-cut-hair-beards-victims.html#ixzz1a2I3Lcpz

(bbm)
I took that to mean that Mullet is the one who ordered the hair be cut.

Oh, you are right. I missed that.
I don't remember reading it in the opening post. But I did read it quickly.

WHAT?! This hits close to home for me! I lived in Bergolz and had many freinds there. I was born in Jefferson CO. I lived in Richmond too. We never thought the amish were strange, thats just who they are you know? If what these punks are doing isnt considered hate crimes, I dont know what is! The amish dont bother anyone, the clothes the women sew? Flawless! We used to go to the big flea markets..my mom n dad, me and my brother and buy the amish cheeses, baked goods, eggs and we always treated them with respect and the amish did the same. I would not say they were outgoing but we always conversed. This is just nuts, to violate people by breaking into their homes, then to violate them by humiliating them, terrorizing them. Those poor people!

Peazzer I don't think it can be a hate crime if the offenders are Amish as well. However, back in Septmeber a couple were burglarizing this same community. I guess they figured it would be easy as the Amish don't want to deal with LE.

Shoefly pie rocks by the way.

Yes, most Amish believe in handling things themselves. Most won't go to LE for help or press charges. No matter what crime is that they are a victim of.

They also believe in extending forgiveness, even when the offender is not repentant. It's a life full of hard physical labor, due to their restrictions, but they sure seem to know what matters!

A Jefferson County deputy said authorities arrested 38-year-old Johnny Mullet, 26-year-old Lester Mullet, 53-year-old Levi Miller, and Lester Miller. Lester Miller's age was not immediately available nor were the charges against him.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Mullets and Levi Miller were charged with kidnapping and burglary.

Authorities say that the first attack involved six men and six women bursting into the home of a Middlefield area couple. They were forced to the ground, and the man's beard and the woman's hair were cut.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla says the couple was attacked by their own children. "If you cut your mom's hair, and your dad's hair and beard off, they will cut anybody's hair and beard off," Sheriff Abdalla said.

Only wfgodot knows for sure.:D

Meanwhile that's good they allowed LE to make the arrests.

One of our papers had the headline "Shunned Amish". I will not lie as I thought that would make a good name for a band. I'll probably be punished for thinking that.

funny!

OK...I have to say, from a logistics standpoint, this article makes little sense to me. I grew up in Middlefield, and now live about 5 minutes from it. It's in Geauga County, not Jefferson County. To be honest, I don't even know where Jefferson County is, but I can guarantee you it's not within 100 miles of here.

Why isn't the Geauga County sheriff commenting on this at all? Seems odd to me. I also find hard to swallow the shop owners comments about guns and ammunition sales going up, as well as camera sales going up (the kind of camera you mount to track activity on your property). The Amish don't even have electricity and even if such a camera could be battery operated, they wouldn't buy into it, and only the Amish seem concerned about these renegade gangs, not the non-Amish who would normally buy devices like that.

Not saying these attacks didn't happen, just that I think parts of this story don't add up, and some things (storeowner's comments) might be sensationalizing the situation to garner 5 minutes of fame and give a boost to flagging business.

Ohio Amish leader: Beard-cutting religious matter

BERGHOLZ, Ohio (AP) - The leader of an Amish group with members accused of going into the home of another Amish man and cutting his hair and beard said Monday it's a religious matter and police shouldn't be involved.

Sam Mullet said he didn't order the hair-cutting but didn't stop two of his sons and another man from carrying it out last week on a 74-year-old man in his home in rural eastern Ohio.

Seriously?? His name is Sam MULLET?

(CNN) -- Three Ohio Amish men remained in police custody Monday after allegedly assaulting other members of their local community in part by forcibly cutting off hair and beards -- a particularly egregious offense in Amish society.

Lester Mullet, 26, Johnny Mullet, 38, and Levi Miller, 53, were arrested last Friday, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla.

Additional arrests are expected, Abdalla said....

There is a thread on this already somewhere.
