SIDNEY — Police are still working to find out how a woman’s finger ended up in a Walmart parking lot.

The amputated finger was found Sunday in the parking lot of Walmart’s Sidney store.

Analysis done at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed it belonged to a woman, but how it got there is something police and people in Sidney are trying to figure out.

Finger found in Walmart parking lot remains unidentified as ‘very unique’ investigation continues

“The situation is obviously very unique, it’s not very common to find a human appendage in a public space as such,” Sidney Police Captain Jerry Tangeman said.

After being found, the finger was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. Testing there determined that the finger belonged to an adult woman.

“The next thing is (that) the coroner’s crime lab is going to do DNA extraction and then it will be transferred to the (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation) Crime Lab,” Tangeman said.
