Nov 2, 2022 article. Father offering $5,000 reward for information about his son Anthony, aka T.J.

[…]

The Cleveland father of three′s Black Jeep was last spotted on a city camera two weeks ago on West 25th Street near the freeway.

His family says when he failed to pick up his son from school they knew something was terribly wrong, “He didn’t go pick that boy up from school and didn’t call nobody. No, something is wrong because that’s something he’s never done, it’s out of character,” Mays, Sr. told 19 News.

[…]

The family is urging detectives to use whatever resources at their disposal to help find T.J. His cousin Corpening tells 19 News, “What I do know is he’s not running, he’s not hiding, he’s not, not wanting to be found. Wherever he’s at, whatever he’s experiencing in this moment, he wants to be found.”

[…]

If you have information that could help in this case contact Cleveland Police Detectives.

You can also contact T.J.’s family at 216-512-5184.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A Cleveland father is offering $5,000 out of his own pocket to anyone who can tell him exactly what’s happened to his son.

Anthony Mays, II, also known as T.J. hasn’t been seen or heard from since Oct. 18.

His father, Anthony Mays, Senior is beside himself, worried, wondering what happened to his only son, “It’s driving me up a wall not knowing where my only son is at, and there’s nothing I can do but just keep praying to God.”

Alesia Corpening is T.J.’s niece, but she says they were close like a brother and sister, “There’s nothing that I can’t call my uncle for, like if I’m in a bind, or if I just need to talk, if I need to vent then T.J. is somebody I know that I can call.”

Can't police check his cell phone use? Credit card use? Haven't spotted his car anywhere?

The Fourth Amendment protects you from illegal search and seizure, and a provision of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 (ECPA) dictates what law enforcement must obtain in order to get the information. Depending on the data they are seeking it might require a court order, subpoena, or warrant. None of those happen immediately. Here's some info from the Bar Assn. about LE obtaining various records. Thanks. Im somewhat familiar with some of the local prosecutors. If it comes to that, I’m sure they’ll try to take care of the necessary paperwork.

SBM

She said on October 18, Mays spoke to family and friends throughout the day. Corpening said he spoke to his girlfriend last around 9:00 p.m. He told her he was going to run some errands. His car was spotted that night around 10:30 p.m. near Clark and West 25th street and that’s the last time his car was seen. [snip] His family said he could’ve been going towards Wayside Road and Nela View Road.

I hope they find Anthony. There isn't a lot of information, other than where he was last seen and a description of his car. Nothing about where he worked or lived.

The two locations mentioned, where he was last seen and where he might have been traveling to, are pretty far apart. They're on opposite sides of Cleveland, 14 miles apart. It doesn't sound like he just went out to get groceries or something. He told his girlfriend he was running errands. He spoke to her by phone, but news doesn't say where he was when he called her.

Timeline:
Tuesday Oct. 18, 2022

9 pm - tells his girlfriend via phone that he's going to "run some errands" - location?
10:30 pm - his car was spotted in the area around W. 25th St and Clark - Was he in it? Was he driving it? Was it parked?
That's the last time he was seen

Around 3 pm, he didn't pick up his son from school

If someone at W. 25th and Clark St. spotted his car, he must have known people who lived in that neighborhood or it was spotted on LE or security camera. Cleveland Police now have automated license plate readers at various spots around the city. It's possible they had one near W. 25th and Clark. It's a fairly busy area and near the large Metro Health Hospital campus.
