Slow Search: Investigators To Resume Methodical Search of Anthony Sowell's Home

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Police, fire and coroner investigators are expected to return to Anthony Sowell's Imperial Avenue home around 10AM this morning.

They will resume their search of the walls, floors and the yard for more remains and evidence.

Mistrust hinders ID of Cleveland slaying victims

Janice Webb was on her way to a Father's Day gathering with her family when she disappeared, said fiancee Ronnie Bowie of Lakewood. Her grandmother lives in Sowell's neighborhood.

Webb, the 47-year-old mother of a grown son, was a drug user, but had a good heart and would "give you the world," Bowie said.

"She did things I wasn't proud of," he said. "That still don't give nobody the right to kill."

Though Bowie disapproved, Sowell's neighborhood was one of the areas Webb frequented. Bowie says he went to police in Lakewood to report his fiancee missing, but they refused to take it because she was an adult.

I wonder what her violation was? Maybe she failed to report? Wonder what date she last reported.

I suspect she failed to report because she was dead. Her family hadn't seen her in over a year, according to that one article. Which would make it late summer 2008. Parole violation order is dated August 2008.

CLEVELAND – Police say there's only one way for the families of missing women to know for sure if their loved ones are among the victims found in suspected serial killer Anthony Sowell's house: Give DNA samples. But relatives with checkered pasts in the hardscrabble neighborhood seem reluctant to come forward.

Area pastors are urging families to provide DNA samples that could help the coroner's office identify the remains of eight black women, saying that nearly two dozen others are still missing in southeast Cleveland. The coroner's office, meanwhile, tried to calm concerns by promising the samples would not be shared with police.

When I was getting a divorce about 20 years ago, I rented an apartment. The manager of the apartment building invited me over for a drink. I declined several times. Then, he somehow convinced me "it was only for a beer, and he needed the company." Nothing seemed that strange about it, at the time.

Once I was in his apt., he gave me a beer and started a conversation. This is where it turns ugly. He suddenly shifted into this other persona and lunged at me and kissed me. That didn't shock me so much, but then he held me down and literally ground his teeth into mine--to the point of almost breaking my jaw (it was very bizarre). I thought I was going to suffocate. You may know the rest. I was a rape victim. He continued to harass me and I left the apt. building.

Did I go to police? No. Because at that time I did not feel they would ever take me seriously. They would claim I willingly put myself in this situation. This was way before date rape was recognized as being rape.

I feel very fortunate to be alive.

I posted this because the perp. in this case also used the ruse of inviting women over for a drink. And I am certain that he pulled a "Ted Bundy" on them, like this guy did on me.

The people commenting on this article are calling him "Tony" are saying he has been raping since 8th grade......also calling him the Lee Rd rapist. Mother and sister always protecting him.

That's exactly what happened with Rodriguez (level 3 sex offender) who murdered Dru Sjodin. He had been raping since an early age. Sister even bought him a brand new car after he got out of prison.

The scary thing is that list is probably not nearly complete--especially if those stories of police refusing to take missing person reports are accurate. I would add another 30% or more to that list.

I think that any police officer who refuses/refused to take a missing person report because the person missing lives/lived on the fringes of society should lose their job.

Why don't you take the First District? Post your results whenever you are finished.

I've already done the Fourth District, and I'm sorry to say I found nothing about a single one of the women listed. Nothing. No websites that list them as missing, no news stories.....nothing. It's terrible. Didn't the Cleveland PD ever publicize the fact that these women were missing? No news releases to the media? No listing them on missing persons data bases?:furious:

The only exception, of course is Nancy Cobbs, one of the victims.

I also read today that police had hopes of identifying 2 more people today. After reading missing person information for Gloria Walker, Michelle Mason and Janice Webb, I have a feeling they are going to be the next ID'd. Their whereabouts when they went missing are too close to Sowells home for my comfort.....
