I heard or read years ago that the only reason Renee was still working was because SHE was paying for Brian's tuition to OSU. Either they couldn't afford to send him without her job or Dad was unwilling or unable to pay for it. Randy told Brian after Renee died that he would not pay for his continuing education. Perhaps after finding out that his sons were getting the lion's share of the insurance money, he never even gave Brian the check for his tuition in the first place. Funny how that check has NEVER shown up. MOO.

With all of these supposed texts Brian was making throughout the night, LE should know if he was communicating with Randy. And if there was a gay angle, I'd think it would be closer to Brian hitting on someone who was offended and incensed rather than an existing relationship going very badly that night.
