I want to comment on the back seat attitude I see in this case, I mean no disrespect, but across this country there families who have loved ones who are victims of violent crime, I know my family went through it, what’s missing here is the sense of urgency to find their loved one, I don’t see it, You as a family don’t hide or coverup anything in like this to protect other family members, families are supposed to circle the wagons, take care of each other and band together to find their loved one or get justice......members of my family acted like jackasses, when my moms aunt was murdered, they did not want to face the truth or like that movie, A Few Proud Men, they could not handle the truth, I still believe today if it wasn’t for my dad and myself , putting everything into it, being pains in the 🤬🤬🤬, the case would have never been resolved....
In this case trying to protect a minor child because of how she would react because her dad is a named suspect, is wrong from all aspects....
In my book, families are made of your basic component , people , then love, no family is perfect, that’s why you work together , and like in the Coker case, if indeed William did this crime, he should be a man, a father, and admit what he did, pay for the crime and his family is allowed to move on, stop the phoney baloney, lies and b/s, so the family can heal and move forward..
So to the backseat families in cases like this , get in the front seat and drive this investigation, to resolve, you owe it to your family member labelled as victim..

In this case if they think she might be alive , travel to the areas where you think she is, and the biggest, hire a private investigator, ask a retired police detective, remember they are like old military airmen like me who loved there job, and if could go back, would go back in a heartbeat...

Unless they get get in the drivers seat, this case is closed....

The family not keeping Cheryl's case in the news and not being very outspoken is a bit odd. The only thing I can figure is that police told them to stay quiet (why? Not sure) or because the minor daughter is still living in the family home along with Bill, perhaps they greatly fear Bill cutting off her contact with them completely if they are outspoken about their feelings/suspicions of him. What's worse than losing a woman to murder? Losing her daughter as well. Perhaps they have come to terms with Cheryl to some degree therefore their focus is on maintaining close relationships with Cheryl's daughters?

Tough situation to navigate, I feel very badly for them. Things can get strange between non-blood relatives when someone dies, now imagine navigating that strangeness with the knowledge that Police believe Cheryl was murdered, not "just" dead, and that they believe Bill did it. I wouldn't know what to do really if I were her family. Part of me would want to fight for justice for Cheryl, another part of me would fear Bill too much to be very open or outspoken about it. And I would also fear losing the relationship with their daughter. She's still a minor, yes? So Bill calls the shots.

I watched a recent crime documentary where a woman's body was never found, and husband never prosecuted (was never deemed their sole suspect, either), and the husband eventually remarried. But the family of the woman whose body was never found were the loudest and biggest pains, even brought a civil case against the husband. Hired people as you suggest, sleuthed relentlessly on their own, found out information on the husband's past that eventually got him nailed for killing his first wife YEARS later. At the end of the broadcast, the women said something to the effect that he had no idea what family he messed with...and I thought of you Tooltime.

In this case, I doubt William has any other missing women in his life. But I agree that at this point, LE's hands are tied without Cheryl's body and sealed their own door to any subsequent interviews by naming him their sole suspect.

William knows the heats off him. Who knows, maybe he's innocent. I might be open to that idea if he started sharing some information. Your teen daughter can handle it, btw. If he ever does, though, it won't be with law enforcement. It'll be up to the media to start hounding.

Excellent post. So very true. If Bill did indeed do this to her, I am sure some of her loved ones and friends are no doubt not only scared for themselves and their families, but also Cheryl's children as well, especially their minor child.

Still, if this was my sister, daughter, etc- no way could I be silent and stand back, while all this time has gone by and no results.

I'm thinking some day, perhaps, some hiker or hunter will find her body and COD may not be conclusive. I just hope that they have enough evidence now, for when that time comes.

The problem here is William probably has instilled some form of fear level in that household, I am only guessing and this is my theory I bet there was pressure indicated behind closed doors...

I know for a fact, if this was happening to someone who was very close to me, the suspect and I would be dancing off some walls, and one of us or both would end up in the emergency room, my years of military self protection skills would definitely come into play, it would be worth it to let the suspect know their not in charge here and you can leave your intimidation attitude at the front door...

I think he is using the old school yard bully techniques here...

Wyome , that case you mentioned, sounded similiar to mine, when our “rouge” detective ( last name Delaney) he asked for our help, which brought us into some really creepy neighborhoods to gather evidence , but it was worth it, like that old tv commercial , inserting my verbiage,
“ help solving a crime.....priceless”

Very thoughtful and I agree. I would only add that the daughter vacationing twice with Dad and lover (before and after she goes missing) speaks volumes as to the level Dad is willing to keep disfunction a part of this teen's life. We don't know the strength of the relationship with any of Cheryl's peripheral family has with the daughter. The fact that he was carrying on with the GF during such turmoil teen years is disgusting imo, regardless of his guilt for this crime.

Teens are ever growing, cognitively, and bounce back. They ride the storm better than most. I'd be throwing out some serious wrenches and demanding investigations, begging the media for time and hiring some people to make noise. I can't image anything worse than losing a child.

The post by mislowe above is interesting , especially the thought that the police may, have asked the family to stay quiet....

If this is true, I think that we be horrible advice, the police are gambling that everything will stay quiet until when and if there ready..

As I see it their gambling skills are a lot to be desired, the slowness in the beginning, naming him suspect, and I will include an action that went wrong when they gambled wrong and two little girls are dead...

What if something snaps in suspects head, and more harm is caused, can they justify it.....I can’t see it.....

Well today started off with a bang here, I have been stating that the police never have time to solve cases, because of new ones.....when I moved into my home 5 years ago, it was the ideal neighborhood, but it has gone to s&$t , this morning around 430 am I happen to notice a “fine upstanding citizen” trying to enter my neighbors home, no luck, tried vehicles, then going through the garbage looking for papers to steal someone’s identity, I took photos of him committing crimes, I called military police and spoke with them as I chased this idiot down, I don’t think the suspect was expecting me to chase him down and corner him, held him until police arrived......the police were thankful, but worried I put myself at risk, I took them I am 61 years old with stage 3 cancer and m/s, I’m no coward....what have I got to lose, another bad guy off the street...

This incident this am , is a perfect example of why the Coker family needs to get out of the backseat, standup, get aggressive, and find your loved one....
I did not know if the knucklehead this am had a weopon, but that would have been a issue to deal with if needed...and if I did not take a risk, this knuckleheads crime spree would have continued,

So if they took control and stop being afraid of him, just maybe this case will be solved.....

In my incident , the photos I took, are going to ace the conviction of this knucklehead......like I said earlier, they need to work the problem, of this back seat mentality...

Wow, Kudos to you my friend! The neighborhood owes you a debt of gratitude for sure!! You are a true veteran and selfless. In the future, I'd rather you just call 911 lol, but I know that's not who you are. They don't make 'em like you anymore. Take care of you, though, you're most valuable. You've earned to take a back seat the next time :)

Thanks,!!! the secret is taking the incriminating photos first , then go after them, I love having the last laugh when they say, “ I didn’t do that” , then I hand over photos, to the police....“ checkmate”......

It’s tough living around people who are afraid to report a cable tv outage...

I have noticed the tone of the neighborhoods , mine, where Cheryl’s mom lives, and around Cheryl house, the crime rates are sharply rising for some reason....

My wife worries about home invasion, I don’t own a firearm, but I do have one hell of a sharp samurai sword, I told her if I ever had to start swinging that thing , I could clear a room very fast.......

Does anyone have any idea what the authorities will do with Cheryl’s status on 2 Oct, ?

And many cities are now decriminalizing behavior. And I'm not talking getting caught smoking a joint. I mean, no one's bothering to prosecute you if you break in and steal less than "X" amount. Crime is now on the rise where this is happening...creating more and more victims. It's tragic to watch.

As far as Cheryl's status, I don't believe anything has changed. This thread now has her listed as deceased/not found...but I'm weirdly uncomfortable with that. I don't know why. Maybe because I'm not super confident with LE on this one...not that I don't believe she was murdered, but because I'd rather the status be changed when charges are brought and the fat lady's sung.

Wyome, I do agree with the criminalizing of criminal behavior, for these examples, when I wrote about the suspect I caught the other morning, he was arrested, now I find out from a neighbor who lives in the area where he committed the crimes, is out, she came over and told me her ring door bell caught him looking in my windows trying to gain access to my home the night after he was arrested.....
I was so pissed, I called the police requested a supervisor come to my home, I informed him not so nicely, that if this suspect gains entry to my home , THERE WILL BE BLOODSHED and it won’t be mine.....I asked him why he was released, I was told since his many attempts to enter homes failed that he was released on a appearance ticket for trespassing on a federal military base....

And I do agree politicians are the blame for the decriminalization, after the Dayton shooting the “genius” mayor used the incident to expolite the issue had a big come together party, which the police were told to monitor and do nothing, which turned into a huge drunk fest and vandalism...good job..

So in comparison to the Coker case, I can see where if people had solid evidence would be afraid to come foreword, out of fear of the suspect or his friends.....

In my case until his court date in two weeks, I changed my sleeping pattern, I sleep in the day and I am up all night sitting in the dark, waiting...

The laws today protect the criminal, not the victim, or witness, and with certain crimes decriminalized, just opened the flood gates..

I am not afraid or scared, but I told the police supervisor I will hold you personally accountable for the suspects actions if he decides to pay me a visit again.....I am so pissed now , at the system....my head is spinning.

And I do firmly believe that there are people with good hard evidence in the Coker case, but are afraid......because most people don’t have the courage or backbone , like I have to stand up to the bad guys.....it’s a shame.....

Only we as a civilized society can protect us, not brainless politicians....

You have somehow managed to wend your way into my heart as a person, Tim. You're what true heroes are made of and all about.

I couldn't agree with you more about the family- strength and safety in numbers. There's only one who has tried and been outspoken, but she is in an in-law and perhaps tries not to over step her bounds and is just doing what she can to help find Cheryl without crossing any lines.

Thanks tooltimetim great news!
Cheryl Coker homicide: Texas EquuSearch returning to Dayton area
The organization, in a Facebook announcement posted Friday afternoon, said the search will commence at 8 a.m. and the command center is to be at St. Helen's Church, 5086 Burkhardt Road, in the "Smith" building.

All searchers must be at least 18 years old with a valid ID, according to the organization, dressed appropriately for the weather and for wooded terrain.

Steelslady , thanks! And as per an in-law not wanting to overstep her bounds, well it’s about time that she act like the adult in room, and say I am taking charge, I would use the guilt trip on them either you want to find her , if not step aside , shut your mouth and let’s work the problem..

Remember cowardice and silience is a sign of weakness and there can never be a positive result.....

I still believe if there would have been serious actions in the beginning this case probably would be solved by now....

There is a lot of missing persons cases, and these families work their butts off searching, sometimes I wonder if this family is afraid of answer or result of this case???

Is this Equusearch search have anything to do with one year anniversary coming up on the 2nd , does anyone think the police have any surprises coming up, to coincide with the anniversary......

I was reviewing the Richardson case, and the verdicts are aggravating , the jurors stating the baby was stillborn, if so they should have convicted on involuntary manslaughter, Richardson was purposely not eating correctly to provide nourishment for the child, all she was worried about was fitting in her prom dress and keeping pregnancy hidden, then two days after the child was dead....

My opinion, this jury is like society today probably did not want to ruin her life since she’s young, my opinion and if true a line of crap, if I was ever on that jury I would be arguing and holding out for that conviction...

Sorry everyone for venting, ever since my families case, following others, like the Coker case, it just proves to me our justice system is molded around the thinking of our crappy society, and these individuals who sit on juries come from that lot , instead of using critical thinking..

This is what everyone is fearful of the Coker case, that if it ever went to trial the jury would be stacked with our societies brainless and not critical thinkers.....sorry, I hate to vent...

I have been thinking about the Coker case and how the police have handled it , I thought about it overnight, I got up to write it down...

My feelings in this case shows what happens in too many police investigations, the police decide on what happened and then look for evidence to try to back them up., when actually they are supposed to do the opposite...

No wonder our justice system is horrible....
