In some cases LE doesn't want to risk any evidence being handled by family members. Remember that this is a criminal investigation, not just a missing person investigation. Even the locals who volunteer are trained what to look for, how to look for it and what to do if they find anything.

There's also compassion. Rader said they were looking for small bones. LE and search organizations do not want family members and loved ones to be exposed to viewing decomposed, skeletal remains of their sister, daughter, mother or grandmother. Neither do I.

Cheryl's family has done interviews, vigils, balloon releases, etc. IMO it's cold and callous, not to mention against WS TOS to continually ridicule the victim's family members. On WS they are victims too. IMO they aren't hypocrites just because they aren't doing things your way.

Exactly.
It is absolutely standard that family does not participate in these searches. If a family member found something they might impulsive touch it, which can contaminate evidence and hinder a prosecution later.
It is also standard that nobody under 18 participates in these searches. Nobody wants minors to be exposed to these things!
Neither of these are strange facts at all, they are absolutely normal and what we are used to seeing.

One year after her disappearance, Riverside to host a vigil for missing Cheryl Coker

In Coker’s memory, there will be a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. tonight at St. Helen’s Parish, 605 Granville Place in Riverside. The vigil will be held behind the church and the public is welcome.
How sad is this? I can't believe that we are still all here, a year later, on Cheryl's thread. Why oh why can't this poor lady be found? Her poor mother- breaks my heart, how tough this year has been for her.

That other story that was mentioned above about a man held police at bay in his home for over 13 hours, this home is located behind the Kroger store, about 1/4 mile from Cheryl’s home.
The man, 40 years old died of self inflicted gunshot, he was on the FBI radar screen, they found over 50 weapons, ammunition , body armor, etc...

still trying to get more in on the police update scheduled for tommorrow

Yea when I first heard about the weapons last night, I was really afraid it was Bill.

1 year later, police continuing Cheryl Coker’s investigation
“There are no words we can say to Cheryl’s family that can comfort them through their struggle to understand what has happened,” said the Riverside police department in a release.

“However, we continue to ensure her family that the Riverside police department is still investigating any and all leads as they are reported.”

“We understand the public’s desire for more information regarding his case,” said police. “The investigative information will not be released to protect the integrity of the investigation.”

I have followed this case for the past year and all of you here on this thread have given Cheryl a voice.
As we continue to struggle to understand this case, I do hope we receive news as to the answers needed to so many questions to whom, what, where, and why this happened to Cheryl.
Justice is coming!!!
Thinking of you Cheryl and Prayers for your family on this day and always.

This incident in Riverside last night, and the hord of weapons the police found , made me think back to William Coker’s Facebook page back when Cheryl disappeared, this man had posts about his assault weapons

I haven’t checked in a while, does anyone know if he still has these weopons , or would have the police collected the weopons from the search of the home in the beginning....

and I need someone to explain to me , if LE has the legal right to bring their suspect in for a 72 hour visit, for cookies and milk, why won’t they do it, ....they should do this to break the comfort zone the suspect seems to have now........

there’s no statute on the books stating that they have to charge him, after 72 hours he goes home, still the main suspect, but it lets him know they are right behind him.......and just maybe a vital mistake on his part, or the GF will happen....

I just read an article on WDTN dated today written by Adam Rife, his piece was on the Coker investigation, I read the article a couple times and he refers the police leads are slowing down, they have few leads..

He also mentions and I quote, William was uncooperative then and is still uncooperative now

the police chief stated in article “I don’t think it’s as fluid now as it was then, of course ( RPD Chief Frank Robinson)

it really doesn’t give much encouragement on this case...
Note I had trouble loading the article but it can be found :
WDTN

Titled : Questions remain unanswered one year after Cheryl Coker’s disappearance

the article doesn’t give you any warm fuzzys .....

As we start year two of her disappearance, nothing has changed, after reading the WDTN article, that really deflated and hope this year or next..

After reviewing this case, from top to bottom and side to side , the one aspect of this case I can’t wrap my head around , is why their marriage failed after 19 years, I just don’t get it, my wife and I have been married 35 years, and everyday is as great as it was in the beginning...

is it some mid life crisis B/S, or is William thinking with his little pencil brain, what failed here, does anyone know, was it Cheryl who gave up or was it William, at this point and beyond they should be having the times of their life as a couple.

I could understand if their marriage failed if they were young and married less than 5 years, because most couples in that group are so immature, that I am surprised there not still living in their parents basement..

I truly believe to solve this case the answer is staring us right in the face, and that is what is the “who, what and how, this marriage failed, which will answer why someone is missing....

Good luck this weekend to all of the searchers. Keeping fingers crossed they find Cheryl or some kind of evidence that would help this case.

  • #838
I know when you read the other sites they think the prosecutor can try the case without a body,I know they reference Clinton County Prosecuter Rick Moyer, and when he was able to do it..

they have to realize one thing, they have NO rock solid evidence to prove William did it,if they did they would have in custody, they still don’t know if she left on her own, is there someone else involved, too many what ifs.

so it’s up to the Texas group, if they come up empty , case closed......

Search for Cheryl Coker continues in Vandalia this weekend

Rader advised that anyone searching should not give up hope.

“You never lose hope because if there’s a place you haven’t searched, you have to go and do it. You never lose hope that one day you’re going to get lucky and find what you’re looking for. You can’t lose hope, as long as they’re missing, you have to bring your A-game to the table.”

Unfortunately, we can't discuss why Vandalia is the search area because there is no MSM link to provide. However, FB groups explain why that area is significant.

Actually in this link from WDTN , location reporting from is given as Vandalia. If you watch all, you will see semi trailers in background of where searchers are. Should give a clue as to why they are in that, area. This is the weekend of 9/28 and 9/29. So there is another search on the next weekend of 10/5 & 10/6. Haven't seen news footage yet from latest search.

Search team thinks they’re “one step away” from finding Cheryl Coker
