This case seems to me
a carbon copy of another recent tragedy in Alabama.

The perp also shot children - four
(2 his own).
He is suffering from schizophrenia
and refused taking meds.

Except that in this case (Doerman) the guy didn't appear to have schizophrenia or be suffering from delusions. His motive is a mystery.

Absolutely.
I can't imagine how Laura and Alexis are coping. Both tried to save the victims, their loved ones. And yet they had to watch them get massacred. I really wish I could reach across the screen and hold them tight. :'(

He is in the Correctional Reception Center but likely it has segregation. Segregation keeps notorious/well known inmates separated from general population for their own protection.

When he is assigned his more permanent prison he will be evaluated by staff, get information from snitches, get investigation reports from special prison investigative staff, plus be asked directly if he himself wants to live in protective housing.

So he may feel safer out of general population. If he is in general population and threats are made against him he will be immediately removed to segregation while an investigation gets underway. Of course if he is attacked he will be put in protection and the attacker moved and prosecuted.

His crime is so hideous (many inmates have children) that I seriously doubt he will stay in general population. I picture him in maximum security with other child killers and abusers.
