Found Deceased OH - Cory Barron, 22, Cleveland, 18 July 2014

  • #161
The Cleveland Police do not have a stellar reputation....I live in the burbs of Akron....I dont go to Cleveland for anything

I'm sure it would be difficult (not imposible) to scour the video and figure out if he left....then you just check the venue with dogs....inexcusable if he was in a dumpster for 3 days

And I would love to see what one of these chutes look like...6'+ 225lbs is a big guy....could a person of that girth fit in one?

I have been waiting for any local news station to put up a picture of this trash chute to figure out how he got access to it. One said it was behind a door with a broken lock, but I haven't seen that officially yet.
Obviously, they searched the stadium, but no one thought to search the trash dumpsters or they would have found him earlier. What a shame.
Tragic all around.
I wonder whether the stadium will even let anyone release a photo of the area at this point. jmo

If every inch of Progressive Field was checked, why didn't they find him in the dumpster while it was still on site?
I would imagine that the amount of trash generated at a venue this size would be huge. But I'm a little surprised that given the reports that every inch of the field being searched that LE didn't check the dumpsters sooner. I would so hate to think Cory could have been alive for a while after falling or being shoved into a trash chute and wasn't found in time.

Exactly the dumpsters should have been checked if they searched the whole facility but it's the CPD. It's too bad he had to be found the way he was.

This company did the chutes in the Eagles Stadium. So I imagine they look similar to the pic. More info on their link. http://www.trashmastersinc.net/Chutes.html It is interesting to read that they come installed with an internal sprinkler system on every other floor of the stadium.

I also added pics of a ramdom chute I found on google, a case in Baltimore where a body was found thrown down a chute (This pic is good as you see the room where the chute is at ground level http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/crime/blog/2010/08/police_investigating_body_in_d.html) and a chute a fugitive escaped through(the story is really interesting http://blog.denverurban.com/2014/02/19/glass-house-lockdown-leads-fugitive-capture/).

The chutes at the stadium would be much larger. They use large sized trash cans, especially in the food vendors areas.

The bottom photo in those pics looks just like a trash chute from an apartment complex I used to live in. You had to use medium to small garbage bags because the larger ones would not fit when full. I imagine the whole point was to avoid people falling in the chutes as the building was 20 stories high.

I'm thinking it would have looked more like this. 149182_trashchute-01.jpg

Also a neglectful stadium employee could have left it unlocked.

The only way I think he could have accidentally fallen in is if he opened it to vomit.

Otherwise someone must have pushed him in there? A security guard that snapped? Another drunken concert goer? An old friend?

Well, just for comparison purposes...how many of us here have been in a large stadium (sporting or music event, etc) where you've come across one of these garbage chutes...meaning one huge enough for a large man to "fall" down? I've been to several large venues and have NEVER seen one. I would think if this was something right out in the open more of us wouldn't be so surprised to hear the possibilty of this happening...:(

If I've seen them, I probably wouldn't have even realized what it was for! I still can't see him leaning his head in to throw up and just falling in.. you would really have to fling your legs up in the air and shove your body through. It seems like it would take a lot more effort than being an accident. He went to hang out with friends. I can't see him going off alone, and even if extremely intoxicated, putting himself in there just for fun or laughs.

Either way, Progressive made a HUGE mistake by not locking that up.

Searched 5 times no doubt..... I thought the same thing. That and how did his phone get in another area of town.

I wonder if the festival in Tremont rented any equipment from the stadium or if there were any other common things (ambulances, dumpsters, trash cans, personnel, etc)

In the audio recording the manager calmly tells the operator what they just found.

Caller: There's a dead body in the trash...we hope someone can come out here and take a look at it.

911 Operator: Don't' touch anything, ok?

Caller: We've stopped everything, no more trucks, no -- nothing moving. We just noticed it.

911 Operator: Is it a man or a woman?

Caller: We, we don't know yet, I was off site when the operator called me we're gonna find out here in a little bit.

Just the saddest thing ever. A human life reduced to rubbish. Whatever happened, he didn't deserve this.

It's amazing how calm people are in weird, weird situations, isn't it? (I am not criticizing the landfill manager at all, there are lots of people who are dead calm until everything is handled and then things hit them later.) It sounds like they treated Cory as well as they could have under the circumstances, at least. Those poor landfill workers.

Tonight at 6p on Channel 3 - WKYC they are going to show us the dumpster and chute inside of the stadium.

  • #177
Police say no average sized man could accidentally fall in the chute. A man Corys size would have to intentionally crawl in. Just heard this on the news.

I really wonder if he fell over a railing and landed in the dumpster. If Aldean were on stage (distracting intoxicated audience members), it's possible no one saw it happen. Hopefully LE is going through camera footage from surrounding buildings to see if they can see someone falling from the ballpark.
