Found Deceased OH - Darnell Taylor, 5, foster parent Pammy Maye, 48 advised she harmed him then fled in 2015 gray Jeep Cherokee, Columbus, 14 Feb 2024

Wait - husband says the boy may have been dead since Monday or Tuesday? Did foster child live in the home with the woman AND her husband? How did the husband not know he was missing if it had been two days?
I was just about to ask the same question. Didn’t he notice the child wasn’t there?

I’m either confused or really dense.

"Pammy if you're watching this, can you please reach out and contact us. We need to know if Darnell is safe. We need to know if you are safe," Chief Bryant said.

"I'm also gonna plead to Pammy if she's watching this. Pammy, if you're watching this, could you please reach out and contact us? We need to know that Darnell is safe. We are asking you, Pammy -- and we need to know if you're safe -- reach out, contact us, let us know that you're OK."
AMBER Alert: CPD chief issues plea for Pammy Maye to 'let us know that you're OK'

Officials say 48-year-old Pammy Maye, the boy’s legal guardian parent and former foster parent, has been named a suspect.

Maye and Taylor have not been found since the AMBER Alert was issued early Wednesday morning.

19 Investigates checked to see if Maye has any criminal background and we did not find anything.

In Ohio, a criminal check would be required before fostering children.

According to police, Darnell Taylor has been in the custody of Maye since May 2023.

It's not unheard of for someone to kill their spouse & kid(s), then lie about it to all and sundry, a la Chris Watts. I'll reserve judgement on this one.

Bolding mine.
No, not at all -- that's a very good question.

It could be misreporting.
Anxiously waiting for an update.
This little Darnell needs to be found, asap !
Sadly, I'm fearing the worst.

Is Pammy Darnell’s former foster parent? The article is confusing.

@Bluebear15 I'm not exactly sure what you're implying but it seems like Pammy was heard on the 911 call screaming and then she was covering her husband's mouth and saying she "has a plan"

I have so many questions.

Did Pammy have mental health issues?
Did Darnell have behavioural issues?
Several articles have singled Pammy out as his foster parent/guardian. Is Pammy related to Darnell somehow?
Does Pammy have her own biological children?
Does Pammy work outside of the home and if so what is her occupation?

It sounds as if she had a serious mental breakdown/psychotic breakdown.

What would cause her to kill Darnell?

There is so much we don’t know.

During the Thursday afternoon press conference to update reporters on the status of the case, police played a portion of the chaotic 911 call the suspect's husband placed early Wednesday morning to report Darnell was missing.

[...]

Police also showed dashboard camera footage of a car that passed a Columbus police cruiser responding to the call at the Reeb Avenue home. The vehicle in the footage appears to be headed in the direction of Cleveland, Bryant said.

Police declined to say whether Maye had mental health issues or what, if any, known connections she has to the Cleveland area where her Jeep Cherokee was found abandoned.

[...]

During his initial 911 call Wednesday to Columbus police, the child’s foster father and Maye’s husband said Maye killed the boy, according to an affidavit. He said that his wife told him that the boy was no longer alive, the records state.

The father told a 911 dispatcher that he searched the home for the boy before calling police. According to the court records, Maye held her hand over his mouth when he tried to make the call, saying she “had a plan.”

Maye then fled the home and remains missing, as is the child, police said.

I hope they are checking nearby dumpsters. This is so sad.

Where did you read that Pammy screamed when her husband was on the 911 call?

She can be heard screaming in the 911 call that the PD released today during the press conference.

Anthony and Tawanda Baynes said they are the biological grandparents of Darnell and have been friends with Pammy for many years.

Anthony shared a desperate plea that he hopes reaches her.

"Pammy.... what’re you doing? This is Darnell, you love him. Please, bring him home."

[...]

Anthony and Tawanda said they used to take care of Darnell, but it got to be too much for them.

"Darnell's kind of rough. We couldn't handle him. I hate to say we couldn't handle him, but we didn't want him in the system,” Anthony said.

Anthony said they looked to their close friend, Pammy, who was like family to them.

[...]

"This is not like her at all, the person that I thought that I knew,” she said.

King said her family hasn’t seen Darnell since last July, not long after Pammy and her husband gained legal custody of him. The family said Pammy used to attend every birthday, cookout and holiday, but out of nowhere, she stopped answering their calls.

"As an investigator, I have a million questions," said Harry Trombitas, a retired FBI special agent and member of the state's Amber Alert committee.

During the 911 call, Maye's husband told dispatchers he last saw Darnell Tuesday at 10 in the morning, then he went to work. He said he came home after 10 pm Tuesday night and did not check on Darnell because he wanted him to sleep.

"As an investigator, I’d like to know when the child was last seen by somebody outside the family," Trombitas said.

******
"I, as an investigator, would not stop or not assume anything until I found proof positive that the child was deceased, so I’m sure that the Columbus Police Department is doing the same thing," said Trombitas. "They’re assuming and hoping and praying that that child is still alive and that we can get things resolved as soon as possible."

In the article I posted..
Eta: "A woman could be heard screaming in the background of the call as he said something inaudible, but “foster child” could be heard before the operator asked for Maye’s description."

So, she's the legal guardian, not a foster mother appointed through the system.
