Wellington man missing after apparent crash

https://www.news5cleveland.com/news...ar-old-man-believed-to-be-involved-in-a-crash

Ohio Highway Patrol troopers were called to the scene of a crash in Penfield Township, on state Route 301 near Jones Road about 7:43 a.m. Thursday. There, they found a 2015 GMC Terrain that appeared to have been involved in a crash, but nobody was around.

Shortly after 7 p.m. that day, the registered owner of the vehicle, Derek Roser, 33, of Wellington, was reported missing by his sister.

LE continued their search Thursday evening as well as Friday. People in the area are asked to check their outbuildings and sheds.

Roser is not considered to be dangerous, according to the text alert.

Anyone with information about Roser's whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (440) 329-3710 or the Ohio Highway Patrol at (440) 365-5045.

That was my first thought - not again!. :(

I don't do FB so can't see the comments, any way to paraphrase and stay within TOS? If not, no problem, I just hope this guy will be found alright.

I’m afraid the comment may be true. Lorain County CSI has removed the post about Derek missing entirely. :(:(

I’ll keep checking msm for an update.

I’m not finding the post...date?

@Limecat unfortunately LE has removed the entire post about Derek missing.
I’m worried this may mean the comments I read earlier may be true. :(

Thank you mlhenn! I kind of wondered if that had happened. Bracing myself and praying.

Sadly, here's MSM confirmation of what we didn't want to hear :

Man missing from Penfield crash found dead in Medina County

On Saturday, Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Donald Barker said Medina County Sheriff’s deputies found Roser about 7:30 p.m. Friday in a field about 50 yards off Chatham Road in Spencer Township.

It appears Roser walked away from the crash, trekking about 5 miles before lying down in the field and succumbing to the cold overnight.

Rest peacefully, Derek.

So sad to hear this. The article says it appeared to be a minor accident. Why then would something like this happen? I realize it was 20 degrees out. I’m not familiar with the area. If he had lost his phone, why not knock on a house for help? Is it possible he had a bad head injury from the “minor accident”?

My heart goes out to all that care about him.

Possibly he was inebriated and wanted to distance himself from the vehicle.

His body was found about 5 miles west of my sister's house.

Oh yes many cases involve someone who had been drinking and trying to avoid dui’s. One of the cases I carry closest to my heart, Brandon Swanson, has a similar theme. I suppose after hypothermia sets in, a person doesn’t really recognize the need to get help because they do in fact start feeling very warm. Not saying he was intoxicated but I think that’s a possible scenario as you said.
