The special needs child sustained lifelong injuries after he was brutally assaulted by a much bigger 12-year-old who had a history of tormenting him during a Cub Scout meeting in a local Ohio church, the lawsuit.

"He's a very energetic, happy little guy who was so proud to be part of Cub Scouts," Breanna said of her son. For privacy reasons, he will be referred to as D.R.

Joining Cub Scouts was supposed to be a new adventure for 5-year-old D.R., but only a few months into scouting things changed.

"I heard him yell for the first time, and that is a sound that I will never, never forget as a mother," Breanna said. "Because I took my eyes off for a split second. He was laughing, having fun."

At a Cub Scout meeting in Bowling Green in December, a twelve-year-old allegedly punched D.R. in the head, kicked him and stepped on his leg.

Oh, how heartbreaking.

Defendant L.C. has a history of physically attacking Plaintiff D.R. and had been told to keep his hands to himself on numerous occasions prior to the incident

I think the 12-year-old should have either been required to have a designated adult with him at all times or not allowed to continue coming. I'm going to speculate the 12-year-old had known behavioral problems in general, and his parents thought putting him in Scouts was a good idea, because troubled kids do need hobbies and social activities. But he had so little.impulse control, he should not have been "alone" around younger kids.

I wonder how badly he has ever harmed another child or an animal before. There was probably a history and he probably had a diagnosis by age 12??

The leader stepped out to vape during the meeting. Does he even need to be in that position if he can’t go long enough without vaping to conduct the meeting?

Ehhh, there were several parents there, including the victim’s. I’m not quite sure I’d really throw shade at the leader because it’s not as if the kids were unattended

The mother appears to have been there too.
“Russell said the attack occurred while she had taken her eyes off her son momentarily, and she was alerted by the sounds of his screams”. From the link.

Poor little guy. I’m not sure why he was there with older kids. From what I remember there are different age groups.

I understand the leader stepping out due to an unplanned bathroom trip or something of that nature, however, a trip outside to vape, even if there are other adults there, doesn’t need to happen. I hope he is held accountable as part of the lawsuit.
