OH - Dr. William Husel accused of murdering 25 patients w/ Fentanyl Overdoses, Franklin Co, 2019 *not guilty*

this judge is just plain weird and makes me wonder about the voters in Columbus. He has a large SM presence due to his running for reelection Nov. 22. NOt so sure with a trial this long if he is the right guy for the job this year. This trial is giving him a platform to make a name for himself (for me not a good name) and I think so much of what he is doing in the courtroom is for the cameras and grandstanding. He seems to be very political.

Someone in the L&C chat said he is removing all of the negative comments from his re-election FB page about his performance during this trial.

I too am amazed that no interest here in this trial. Today was another day where State's witnesses were good for defense. I see no case for defense so far. I started watching about a week ago and now will go back and watch the first two weeks. It is a very strange trial/courtroom/judge etc. but it is growing on me. The defense team is doing a good job for their client in the cross. With 14 murder charges going to be a very long haul...and then we have the very short days and no Fridays. If you find a more active discussion please post info.

It's a great trial - Diane Menashe is an amazing trial lawyer. I can't wait until they start their case in chief.

is that the daily chat as they are watching the trial or some other chat? That is where I have been watching. Catching up on early days of this trial is an eye opener. Just finished with Talon the pharmacist and he will have to come back due to the judge having plans with his "wife" and no wanting to be in trouble. Probably a campaign event. I assume all of this is not escaping the note of the counsel for both sides. He steps right in and asksa question how he "thinks" the counsel means to ask it and often is not right at all. Sat during break on camera inhaling two choc. bars...and then grunts to get up and move around. Sort of embarrassing for all involved. I am sure baez goes home and has some choice comments to his wife how this is going. Beginning to think Ohio is worse than Florida in terms of courtroom demeanor and justice being served? First Judge Susan and now this guy Holbrook.

This judge is so bizarre! If convicted, can you appeal because the judge was so wacky?

  • #228
no expert here but I think there may well be appealable issues in this one and certainly some of the judge's rulings would be cause for appeal by defense. In a way I think he is helping the defense....not that he is trying...but he is so obviously biased it may send jury the other way. I think simply put the state will have to come up with more evidence than I have seen so far.

I've been watching the trial on WBNS 10TV (a Columbus OH station) on YT where there is no chat (which I sometimes prefer)... maybe I'll try L&C on Monday.

I still don’t understand how this is a murder trial. The defense attorney did a great job today with the so called “expert witness”.
IMO

It was crazy! She obliterated that witness and may even get his entire testimony thrown out.

Really trying to figure why there is zero interest in this trial????
The defense representing Dr. Husel is the best....Diane Menasche
is really one of the best attorneys I have watched. I think this trial
is really interesting but no chat?

it really seems like each and every prosecution witness is helping the defense more than the prosecution. From what I recall, the only 2 family members that have testified that seem really bitter also have said that everything documented in the chart never happened…so if I were a juror, I wouldn’t even take anything of what they have to say into consideration. Most of the staff that testified has nothing but good things to say about the defendant. How is that helping the prosecution? This is the strangest case and so interesting. I hope he’s found not guilty.

Agree Hanni...every witness has helped defense...in fact they have been able to build their entire case around each and every cross exam. Masterful. The State looks desperate and won't stop calling these useless witnesses. The 2 family members that are so bitter...Mrs. Allison and this liar today have yet to settle their civil suits. They were really exposed by Diane M in cross. I too hope this results in a not guilty on all 14 but am concerned that we will have one or two that may hang the jury. The State will have to rest soon...43 witnesses one reporter said.

why did the bitter witness from yesterday give the prosecution an empty pill bottle of her mom’s? I missed a bit of that when it first came up. Then she couldn’t remember when she gave it to them. Lol
And…why is it that these witnesses have been able to sit in the courtroom watching the entire trial and taking notes??

  • #239
no answer to why they are sitting there in the courtroom TAKING NOTES TOO. The woman yesterday was so transparent with her darting eyes.....she is there for $$$ hoping he will be convicted and raise her settlement. The pill bottle came out of nowhere. Either the defense saw her give it to them and they knew it would come up on cross and wanted to get ahead or frankly anything else I can't figure out why they brought it up. It is great evidence for the defense to show a tolerance to morphine that would impact the dosage in hospital. It made her look even worse on the stand. As a juror I would toss out her entire testimony...they have that right and as they go witness by witness bet they do just that if the judge does not do it Monday. He WAS NOT HAPPY.
