Elizabeth's throat was slashed "ear to ear", and her body wrapped in a sheet and placed in a garbage receptacle in the "tenement district". Police believed she had been killed elsewhere. She was to be the primary witness at a hearing the next day against a man arrested on charges on improper conduct. The man's name was William Hoon. When arrested, he was in the company of two young girls whom he'd invited into the stable where he was employed.

In November 1919, 9-year-old Emily Gump mysteriously disappeared after leaving her home at No. 257 McMicken Ave in Cincinnati. Her mother said she left to attend an "entertainment" at the church. She reportedly was seen at the church playing with two other children, and then vanished.

Freda Hornberger was last seen on August 21, 1919 after her mother sent her to John Dierks Bakery on Liberty St in Cincinnati. (Freda's home was at 204 East Clifton Ave.) In a book by J.T. Townsend, Queen City Gothic: Cincinnati's Most Infamous Murder Mysteries, it is stated that 12-year-old friend claimed to have seen Freda at 2:30 P.M. at the corner of Central and Wade. At the time, a man was "urging" Freda to follow him. Other sightings are noted, as well.

An interesting and very old missing person case of little Emily Gump, age 9, who went missing from near Cincinnati, Ohio mid November 1919.

It was believed by investigators at the time that she might have been kidnapped and transported to Detroit, Michigan- and/or met with foul play.

The second link indicates that Ohio authorities felt the separate disappearances of Emily Gump and Freda Hornberger (both age 9) were connected. Both occurred in 1919.
