The Ohio Fire Marshal and the Mahoning County Coroner have been called to investigate the cause of a deadly house explosion in Ellsworth Township.

The blast could be felt miles from the home, with residents from Canfield, Salem, Beaver Township, Columbiana, and Berlin Center calling 9-1-1 to report the explosion.

A birds-eye view of the damage from A 21 News drone provided by 680 Aerials shows scattered debris and a hole in the ground where the 1700 square foot, seven-room home once stood.

Neighbor Tracey Beardsley told 21 News that the blast was so fierce, it knocked her to the ground and shattered all the windows in her home.

Six departments throughout the Mahoning Valley answered the call for the deadly house explosion.

When crews arrived at the scene it was covered in debris and the remains of four people. It was a disaster so vast the Mahoning County coroner's office is still working to positively identify everyone inside.

Fire department leaders say supporting first responders through this tragedy is a top priority.

In addition to the complete devastation of the 1,700-square-foot home that blew up, neighboring homes were knocked off their foundations and windows were blown out, WKBN reported.

Authorities did not publicly comment on the cause of the explosion, though details of the blast suggested a gas leak was likely to blame. The four victims were not identified.

Debris extended half a mile from the central explosion, authorities said.

Two victims named

This is local to me. I was at an event on the evening that the explosion occurred with both the mother of a next door neighbor and someone who owned property across the road; the neighbor and her mom buried the 3 dogs that were killed in the explosion. The victims were the homeowners and their daughter and her husband, who were spending the night at the house because of work being done on their own home.

IMO the initial working theory of the cause of the explosion was that a work crew replacing siding and windows on the home had somehow damaged the gas line, filling the basement with propane gas. Just devastating.
