I don't think the pneumonia story is flying with anybody. That is not something you can diagnose yourself. CPR to explain broken ribs? Nice try. They killed this baby, either through abuse or extreme neglect. The older children probably know what happened. Garin's story will be told.

Please don't plea down, baby killers. Please, be arrogant and take this to trial. Let a jury hear your ridiculous lies. I hope sentencing is harsh. Extremely harsh.

ETA: Wait, I just read the last 2 links. Four years? No, seriously. FOUR YEARS?
Can someone please explain the grand jury situation to me? Does this mean the grand jury decides if there is enough evidence for trial? Could charges be updated to murder at some point?

In an interview with Richmond, Ky., police after her arrest there on Saturday, Johnson said she and her boyfriend, Nathan Ritze, buried the child on Dec. 19 on a Diven Road property behind an apartment complex where she once lived in Hillsboro.

In the affidavit submitted to court, Johnson said she realized Garin was dead after 4 a.m. on Dec. 19. She and Ritze attempted CPR, according to Johnson's statements to Richmond police, but could not revive the child.
It was then that Johnson and Ritze traveled from where they lived in Richmond to Hillsboro to bury the child.

The affidavit also reveals Johnson initially told Richmond police she gave Garin to a woman in New York. It was only after Richmond police told her that Garin's remains were found that she admitted the child was dead.
Ritze attempted to flee Richmond police before being arrested on Saturday. He also had a prior felony warrant issued for his arrest after being absent without official leave, the affidavit states.

Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins says 25-year-old Nathan Ritze was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading Friday in Hillsboro using the Alford doctrine. An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that prosecutors probably could prove the charge.

Ritze's attorney didn't immediately return a call for comment Monday.

Collins says the cause of death for the boy, Garin Niehaus (NEE'-hows), is unknown. His mother, Whitney Johnson, is scheduled for trial next month.

Seems little Garin's dad wasn't such a good role model either:

Police: Man flees accident by way of the Ohio River

A man whose blood alcohol level was well over the legal limit fled the scene of an accident in Northern Kentucky Wednesday morning and attempted to swim across the Ohio River, police say.

Ian Niehaus, 29, of Cleves was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 and had just crossed the Brent Spence Bridge when he crashed into the rear of a car on the 5th Street ramp, according to Cincinnati Police Specialist Nate Young.

Niehaus tried to flee the scene of the accident and crashed into a barrier, Young said. That was when Niehaus made his escape into the Ohio River.

<snip>

Niehaus is the ex-husband of Whitney Johnson, who was sentenced to seven years in prison in January after entering an Alford guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter in a case involving Niehaus and Johnson's infant son being buried on a Diven Road property in December 2012
