GUILTY OH - Garrett Maloney, 19, Portsmouth, 27 April 2011

  • #21
During the past year or so, the Columbus news media have been reporting that there is an major drug epidemic involving pill mills in Portsmouth and Scioto County.

I don't know if there are any pill mills near where his car was found. But I do share the fear that he may have been robbed by someone. :(

I don't know about ohio, but the whole state of WV, there is a major drug epidemic involving pills. Violent crimes & robberies have increased greatly. Mostly over drugs.

I hope someone starts talking in this case. I'll be very surprised if this is not drug related.

Topix does have alot of interesting comments from locals that seem to know him, I can't remember if we can post a link to topix or not ?

I've been following that conversation. I hope the police have seen some of those comments because it seems like there could be some credible leads there.

A damn frightening case. I soooooo hope you're o.k. Garrett, but I suspect that you're not. :( Please find a way to contact your family if you're o.k. So many people, including many of us strangers, are very worried about you!

A lot of the locals want to organize a search. Can anyone tell me a good reason for the police to say not to start a search yet?

What a very sad story.....I wish we could hear something positive in this, but I am worried that things are not going to turn out well. Praying for Garrett and his family tonight.

And now there are two missing men. Flatwoods, KY and Portsmouth, Ohio are approximately 45 minutes apart.

This is the news article:

Authorities are looking for two men who were both last seen on April 27, though the two cases are not considered connected.

The second case is out of Portsmouth, Ohio, where authorities are looking for 19-year-old Garrett C. Maloney. He also was last seen April 27...

While these cases probably aren't connected, I can't help but think about Dillon "Nemo" Bryant, who went missing from Olive Hill, KY in February. I'm not very good at mapping but Yahoo maps shows that Olive Hill is approximately 45 minutes from Flatwoods, KY and an hour and 15 minutes from Portsmouth, Ohio.

This is the first time I've followed locals discussing a case on Topix. If they are reliable, quite a few who have been posting for days now as friends and family are reporting very sad news as of the last hour or so and I assume we'll start seeing news articles soon. Reading what the locals are saying gives me hope they know who is responsible, as it seems to be common knowledge.
I'm not trying to post a rumor, just pointing out what the locals who have been very informative all week are saying so it looks to be true to me. If this is not allowed, please delete my post and accept my sincere apologies in advance.

Are you able to provide a link?

This hits kind of close to home for me. I grew up in NE Kentucky and pretty much all of my family is still there. I can assure you that the prescription pill issue in the area is an epidemic. It has affected my own family. I have never seen anything like it. Never would I have ever dreamed that any member of my family would get caught up in this. It is heartbreaking. The crime is out of control. Police cant keep up. Many murders including Nemo's. There was also the very strange death of a Pastor. He was found dead in the church and there were many strange rumors as to what happened such as his hand was cut off. It was ultimately ruled a suicide but many dont believe it.

And the other young man who is missing from the area. I didn't know the pastor's had had been cut off. That's not a suicide. Who kills themselves by cutting their own hand off?

I also have a family member who has ruined his relationship with the rest of his family because of pill abuse. It's tragic. I don't know what the solution is but we'd better come up with something soon.

I don't know if I am allowed to link Topix. Goggle "Garrett Maloney Topix" and it comes up. You can also check both his personal FB, where his friends are posting "R.I.P." messages and the group formed when he went missing. Both are link here, I think.

Prescription pill abuse is a NATIONWIDE issue. Each town thinks it is just them but I assure you, EVERY town is having this issue. A friend's brother who is in "the business" was recently SHOT AND BURNED. The bad thing about these pills is once they get into your system, the withdrawals are so bad that it's next to impossible to quit, which leads to more crime just to get a hold of it. Sadly, I know way too much and could go on and on but I won't.
I will be praying for Garrett's family. He was so young..... :(

I was so hoping for a different outcome. I dislike saying rest in peace to another young person. :tears:
