Oh Glenara, I am so sad that the system failed you. I pray you have an abundance of food, happiness and comfort now.
http://www.cincinnati.com/story/new...death-sentence-sentenced-glen-bates/91225712/A jury has recommended a death sentence for a man who prosecutors said swung his 2-year-old daughter into a door frame "like a baseball bat," killing her.
The jury of four men and eight women deliberated less than an hour in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court before recommending that 34-year-old Glen Bates be sentenced to death.
Judge Megan Shanahan will announce Oct. 17 whether she will follow the jury's recommendation and impose a death sentence.

Tests show that Andrea Bradley has an IQ of 67, below the threshold for the death penalty. As her attorneys asked Judge Ruehlman to continue Thursday’s hearing so they could renegotiate a plea deal with prosecutors, Bradley blurted out that she didn't care.
Bradley will be back in court Oct. 6. Bradley chose not to take a plea deal that would have given her 15 years behind bars in May. This decision meant her case would head to trial.

http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news...w-moms-mental-status-in-tortured-toddler-caseAndrea Bradley still isn't going to make a plea deal. Not if her mother thinks she should. Not if her lawyers think she should.
Bradley, charged in the death of daughter Glenara Bates, was back in court Tuesday for another hearing. (...)
Bradley's attorneys told a judge Tuesday they'd like a report from doctors on their client's mental status; tests show that Andrea Bradley has an IQ of 67, below the threshold for the death penalty. They expect another hearing Nov. 2.
Andrea Bradley was agitated as she was led into a courtroom Tuesday.
“I don’t want those cameras on me,” she said, as her attorneys repeatedly tried to quiet her. “Y’all want to kill somebody… This is crazy."
Bradley, 30, apparently was referring to the fact that she still faces charges that could bring the death penalty. On Tuesday, she again turned down a plea deal in her daughter’s death.

Several times Tuesday, Ruehlman reprimanded Bradley after an outburst. At one point, she began to laugh as one of her attorneys told Ruehlman that she didn’t want to enter a plea.
“There’s nothing funny about this,” the judge said.
http://www.cincinnati.com/story/new...-death-penalty-apologizes-outbursts/93163388/Andrea Bradley was much more subdued as she was led into a courtroom Wednesday.
"I want to apologize for my behavior the last couple times," she said to Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman.
Last in court on Oct. 18, Bradley laughed at the prospect of the death penalty. Her previous behavior elicited several reprimands from Ruehlman.
An intellectually disabled woman charged with murder in her daughters death is seeking a trial before a judge, her attorney said Wednesday.
My client has been adamant she wants to have a bench trial, attorney Will Welsh told Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman.
Welsh also said he is discussing a possible plea with prosecutors. The trial is scheduled to begin May 1.
I'm wondering what services Bradley was receiving at the county level. With an IQ of 67, she was entitled to assistance from Hamilton Cty Case Mgt. There should have been oversight to ensure Bradley knew how to care for children (classes required), and to protect both mother and child(ren) from abuse and neglect.Sounds like she's got some Oppositional Defiance Disorder going on with that intellectual disability. Yikes. This is so horrific. The father sounds like a horrid manipulative psychopath who hooked up with a woman with ID and ODD and likely a myriad of other personality disorders and mental and cognitive issues and they procreated themselves a victim. Just awful. And much too common. Sigh.
It's inconceivable that parents would intentionally starve their children. It's evident neither parent was wanting for food. But, I'm question whether the mother had the intellectual capacity to understand her child(ren)'s needs and capabilities. Was she given parenting classes? The whole story is a tragedy.
The child (Glenara ) and possibly their other children, could smell the parents food, and they have to go hungry. The parents didn't go without anything, poor starving little Glenara can smell the food the parents are eating, and she has to stay starving hungry until she died.
How can they eat in front of a starving hungry child (children), they can smell the food!!
(I can't really say what I am thinking, I might get banned)!!

2 year old baby girl Glenara Bates beaten with belt and cord dropped on her head stitched together with needle and thread kept in a bathtub and starved to death. Her teeth had also been pulled.
The day she died she had 100 external injuries and weighed 13 pounds. Her parents have been charged.

The 10-year-old also testified about how her mother, Bradley, treated the toddler.
My mom didnt like her, so she got beat, she said.
Since Glenara was treated differently than the other children, Ms Bradley may have resented having another child, and toddlers are very demanding. Was Bradley given sex education classes? Did she have a support system? What happened to Glenara was horrific, and I'm not excusing it, but it was avoidable!I understand that the mother is below the I.Q. threshold for the DP - I'm okay with LWOP. IMO she should not be considered for anything less, low intelligence or not. Maybe she didn't understand nutrition (though I doubt it since her other children were of normal weight and Glenara was the only child who was targeted for abuse) but someone explain to me how her I.Q. excuses her from physical abuse. Her sister testified:

IMO they're both animals and should be removed from society.
Bradleys court hearing started with a sit down between her and her lawyers after she requested the judge give her new counsel. Bradley's attorney Scott Rubenstein asked to resend the request once in front of the judge Monday on Bradleys behalf.
We were set for trial today. The state has been ready to go, we have been ready to go to trial for some time, Rubenstein said. But as counsel, we have had some concerns about her criminal health and whether or not she fully understands what is going on in the court."
