CLEVELAND — Police are looking for a Cleveland man who may have been kidnapped. The man's car was found on the side of I-490, with several cell phones inside. The windows on the car were all rolled down.

Gregory DeVaughn, 39, was last heard from on early Sunday. He called his girlfriend several times from a private number, according to police reports. DeVaughn said he was not in danger, but was at an Air B'n'B in Westlake.

DeVaughn also called his brother twice during this window of time, police reports said. DeVaughn's brother then received a call from an unknown person asking for $20,000.

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 216-623-5218.

Given all of that information, I wonder why they think he was kidnapped? ETA: Just saw the call about someone asking for ransom money.

How often is a grown man kidnapped and held for ransom? Especially one who is not wealthy and or famous. Does his family have a lot of money? What do the kidnappers have to gain? Hmmmm. Sitting hands.

Cleveland police asking for information on missing man who may have been kidnapped

•reported missing Sunday after his vehicle was found on the side of Interstate 490 west at Interstate 71.

•During the incident, the woman who reported him missing “mentioned ransom and kidnapping, though she was not certain,” according to the report.

The woman wasn’t certain? Certain he was kidnapped? I wonder who this woman is in relation to GD?

$20,000 is hardly worth risking 20+ years in prison for first degree or aggravated kidnapping. You can't even buy a new car with that. This whole thing sounds hinky IMO.

His car had several phones inside which means he could be a drug dealer, those r called trap phones.

he probably took drugs on consignment and didnt pay up. So now theyre asking for money he possibly owes.

He has a fairly robust arrest record and that was just in Cuyahoga County (which was all I searched). Receiving Stolen Property, Tampering with Records, Criminal Gang Activity, Possession of Drugs, Possession of Drugs for sale (more than one arrest going back to 1997.) Easy free search by first and last name. Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts Search Selection And Entry I don't think he was "kidnapped". IMO he needs money to pay someone for a deal gone bad and is trying to get it from his family, or those he owes money to are attempting the same.
