Circumstances of Disappearance
The missing person, Hailey Elayne Worthy, took a last minute trip from Georgia to Michigan on 12/13/2020.
Hailey was on the way back to Georgia at approximately 9:00 AM on 12/14/2020.
Hailey was possibly trying to find an alternative route after being informed the Ohio River Bridge (presumably between Ohio and Kentucky) was out.
The last text or phone conversation involving Hailey was on 12/15/20 at 3:00 AM to friends stating, "I love you all and see you soon."

A missing person report was later filed with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department in Georgia (Case #20182984).

Hailey was driving a silver Nissan Sentra bearing Georgia license plate CGD5221.

I'm a newbie to Websleuths, and though I do have an interest in true crime, it is this case that prompted me to join. I happen to live less than two miles from where the car and body were discovered, and frequently ride my bike by the subject pond. I'm puzzled why there was never any further update; particularly on the autopsy results and/or cause - manner of death. Nor have I been able to find any obituary - just seems puzzling.

Welcome @tharpma. Is the pond easy to miss in the dark? Any idea on how she might have driven into it? I do not know if she has any medical conditions that could have contributed to her vehicle going off the road. But If the timeline was correct, she could have been extremely tired. And we all know texting and driving is very unsafe but I see people doing it all the time.

Often, when a missing person is found deceased and you find no further public information on manner of death, authorities have concluded a result of self-harm or an accident. If they don't think that the circumstances of the accident are so common that general public needs to be warned, they tend to keep details private for the sake of surviving family and friends. JMO.

I live nearby too and I just don’t see how anyone could drive in accidentally. I find the lack of any updates or obituary odd as well.

Assuming the reported timeline is correct it sounds like there may have been some disappointment in Michigan and a near immediate turn around, perhaps with little sleep the night before then from 9am to 3am driving I'm sure she would have been suffering from sleep deprivation and there was some confusion about a bridge being out that she was trying to find an alternative route past I'm sure she just drove right in in the dark thinking she was on a back road.

If you ever drive into a pond and you don't have an escape hammer (that can break a window even under water) you have to either be very quick to immediately shove your door open before the car sinks very far or you have to be very patient to ride it all the way to the bottom and calmly breathe in the trapped air pocket until the door gets fully wet on both sides and can be opened at that point.

The bridge that was out was over 3 hours away from Toledo. The pond is located on the Owens-Illinois campus, and she would have had to drive through an outdoor shopping center and a large parking lot to get there. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just unlikely. This is not just a pond on the side of the road and it would be impossible for her to drive into it accidentally from I-475.
