I admit I need to catch up on this thread so sorry if already mentioned...

But for goodness freaking sake...what is with the sheriff’s offices constant posts about social media and sharing posts that do not even need to be shared? Let it go, y’all are supposed to be professionals. Is your top priority really responding to Facebook BS? The amount of posts in the past few days solely focused on what people online have been saying is ridiculous and unprofessional IMO. I also don't see how the constant posts every time the reward is upped $100 or so is at all helpful.

Post about Harley and cut the BS. Please.

We here at the wharf are not very happy right now. Evidently someone reported to ******** that our attempt to raise money for Harley Dilly’s reward fund is not on the up and up. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! After all we try to do for complete strangers this how people act?
We have already presented a check to the PCPD that was more than we had raised at the time of said presentation. Some people have to get a life. The negativity that you spread only hurts people down the road who might need help.
We will continue to accept checks made out to PCPD. Please mail them to myself: Marc Wolfe ... 1574 S HYDE RD .. PORT CLINTON, OH 43452.... also if you want to buy the #hashtag t shirts you can mail a check made out to me at the same address above. T shirts are $25 each, with $20 from each shirt sale goin towards the reward fund. In the memo section of your check please state the size of shirt desired. We here at the wharf will cover all shipping costs. A complete list of names for donations and shirt purchases via check will be posted on FB.
To say we here at the wharf are upset due to someone’s childish act is a understatement. We take this fund raising to heart and I’ve had sleepless nights over this. It’s very upsetting of being accused of this wrong doing.
Please make no further donations via ******** due to the situation at this time.
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE THE SAME BELIEFS AS US.
Maybe someone’s hitting too close to home and don’t know it? Maybe someone is hitting the nail on the head, or several someones are? That’s the only thing I can think of why they are freaking out and not concentrating on looking for Harley..

Police and the F.B.I. send out articles via the news warning parents of possible dangers to children who play these games via wifi.

Okay, so in one of Chief Hickman's pressers he mentioned that HD's school is located southwest of his home, but that it looked like he was headed southeast based on the direction he was walking (if that was him in the grainy video surveillance image).

IIRC, the Chief also stated in that pc that the 150-acre search area was southeast of his home.

So, what exactly is southeast of HD's house that he could have been making his way toward that Friday morning, if that is indeed him in that picture?

I note a major highway.
And what looks to be possibly a body of water…although Lake Erie is located north, not south, of HD's residence.

I haven’t seen anything more and was wondering if TES was still in town assisting LE or were they just called in for one day to help with the aerial searches? TIA

Harley Dilly Update, Friday, January 3rd, 2020

Good Morning Friends,

Unfortunately, we have NO new information that I am able to share with you this morning regarding Harley.

What I would like to share is that Harley’s parents have fully cooperated with this investigation and continue to do so. Please read nothing into the press conference when I stated “no comment”, as that is not the case!

I would also like to add the following, if you have nothing nice to say, please private message me on our Facebook page as I read each and every comment. I personally don’t know how I would react if one of my grandchildren went missing and I would venture to say, neither do most of you!

The Dilly’s entire life has been and continues to be scrutinized on social media, their ONLY concern right now is that HARLEY is returned to them safely…

It's not helpful at all. The Chief might mean well, but what he doesn't seem to understand is that these actions are starting to make people question his objectivity. His focus should be on Harley, not the parents' social media reputation, or the fund raiser's fee-fees, or random comments on his FB page. Focus on finding Harley! IMO

I think when businesses or individuals offer a reward through law enforcement or other agency (as opposed to crowdsourcing), it's agreed up front what will happen if the terms of the reward aren't met, as well as the specific terms of what would qualify for a payout (i.e., information leading to safe return? leading to an arrest? leading to recovery? time frame? etc.) I've read stories of refunds & transfers of rewards to another case, but all were determined by the terms decided by the donor at when the reward was offered.

I'm generally pro-LE.
But their FB post shared above lacks professionalism.

For one thing, it's not LE's job to mount a staunch defense of HD's parents.
The parents can defend their own actions and inactions.
They're adults.

LE's job is to locate HD.
He's a child, out who-knows-where and possibly at the mercy of who-knows-what or who-knows-whom.

Focusing on SM scrutiny of HD's parents is a total distraction from that.
LE shouldn't be addressing it on their FB page.
Public perception of the parents falls outside the scope of their job descriptions.

And another thing: That post has too! many! exclamation! points!!!!

Unprofessional.

Beyond unprofessional IMO.
PCPD is small police force.
Why is this the focus? Stop the madness.

If he was heading SE of his house, that’s a vast amount of nothing. He wouldn’t be seen on camera because there likely isn’t any. If he was meeting with someone on rt 53 they could take him to Fremont. Does he have friends in Fremont? They need to check all those fields back there too. That’s someone on a mission leaving opposite the direction you were supposed to go. So he wasn’t headed to school. That’s very misleading when they say he vanished on his way to school.

I thought the same too but in this case don’t see anywhere staying where it will go if unclaimed. Just checks made to PCPD.
They’re going to have a mess on their hands if that money goes unclaimed bc people will want it back, want say in where it goes, poss not like where it ends up going, etc.

Why is this all so backward!?!

Maybe the Chief is on an extended doughnut break and wants to become a PR person as well. (sorry, sarcasm is my 2nd language)

Has anyone else noticed that Harley's case has been ran more like PR though?? "Don't talk about rumors" "Don't do anything UNLESS we say you can" "Don't take anyone's word for anything unless we say it's true" I'm sorry but is he the Chief of police or our Parent? I get not talking abt rumors and not taking what someone said at face value, BUT IMO I feel the Chief has hindered their investigation by holding off the public getting involved in searches.

All the Chief had to say was "While out searching, WEAR GLOVES so NOT to contaminate any possible evidence, and CALL US IF/WHEN you come across something you believe could be substantial to this case and locating Harley" BUT, instead they waited ALL this time, so any POSSIBLE evidence that could have been found MAY have been removed by whatever reason. Animals, weather, just nature in general. IF there were tracks in the snow that day, they would have been lost by others going to school and through that area I understand that, but, WHY hold off letting the public assist this family and LE in the search for this CHILD??

  • #916
Speaking of tracks in the snow....

when Harley left, there was snow on the ground. Shortly after, the next day, it started warming up. We headed into a two week long warm spell. Any tracks in the snow were likely lost during that 41 hr non-reporting period. That sucks.

So true...they need to get off of facebook (click delete) and go back to the old fashioned tip line.

That would be the Smoke and Mirrors technique. They started off from the beginning giving out misinformation, WHY??

When you look at the Google earth map of the town, I have a really hard time believing an accident occurred on his way to school. He would have been found. He would have had to deliberately head out of town or into the woods. Or water. It's not NYC. He didn't slip into an alley and disappear.

I was just reading a news article on the sober living house right next door to Harley's home. It houses 15 men, and the profile I read was of a resident who had "an extensive criminal record".

I would certainly hope that no one with offenses against children would be in that home right next to Harley?

I really hope that this residential group home has been looked at with a microscope. I am NOT accusing the home or anyone living there of wrong doing, I'm just saying I'd like to see LE rule that out.

Amateur opinion and speculation
