Hi all. I am local to the area and usually, I just read the forums here on my favorite cases but thought I'd pop in and see if anything had been posted here. What a surprise! The social media surrounding Harley is incredibly toxic right now. There is a Facebook group for Port Clinton and people are just dragging this family through the mud, hence the many posts from the Chief about social media. If I were the Dilly family I would be in hiding right now. I agree about the posting from the PD about social media being unprofessional but right now it's all over my timeline and in my face, even I feel the menace coming from people towards the family. There are so many voices and whodunits and theories floating around no real information can be gleaned and LE isn't releasing many details.

I am not sure what this story will develop into to but I am available to do local stuff should it be needed in the future. I'll keep checking in if I can be useful in any way. Thanks for helping look for Harley, it made my day to search his name and get results.

welcome to WS, Chypie. Don't be a stranger, we love to hear the locals on these frustrating cases.

What do the locals think happened to him?

Agreed. I can’t even begin to imagine my child missing and dealing with people on SM

It's easy to condemn the police chief for the scolding he does on FB. I am guilty of that as well. But after spending some time on the local page, it's incredibly vile, the venom thrown at the family. All of those people should be ashamed of themselves.

Some of it is so awful, you physically cringe when you read it.

I was just reading a news article on the sober living house right next door to Harley's home. It houses 15 men, and the profile I read was of a resident who had "an extensive criminal record".

I would certainly hope that no one with offenses against children would be in that home right next to Harley?

I really hope that this residential group home has been looked at with a microscope. I am NOT accusing the home or anyone living there of wrong doing, I'm just saying I'd like to see LE rule that out.

Amateur opinion and speculation

The sober living house is apparently a coveted spot for those in recovery. The criteria for residency is pretty strict. I've posted this link before: Home

Just because someone is an addict in recovery and may have a criminal record, doesn't make them a likely child predator. I'm pretty sure a recovering addict with any sort of record for crimes against children isn't going to be placed in a sober living house in a family neighborhood.

I'm sure LE has ruled out anyone living at the sober living house very quickly.

It's really weird. I'm new and just learned it. You click "quote" and "reply" to the righthand side. Then it will work properly.
Looks like it is working now. Maybe it was forum server overload?

IMO an individual in recovery that ends up in a sober living house has other things to worry about than creeping on a kid next door. They are there to get their life back on track and get their checks marked off the list they are given. They have a list they have to get through before they can leave that house. It's part of the recovery process if it's like most 1/2 way houses.

They have to get jobs, pass the test they are given (to make sure they are clean), they also have chores and other things they have to do. I haven't looked at that link, BUT my nephew was in a halfway house after he got out of rehab. It was a step that the clinic and my brother agreed would be good for him especially since he was going to my brothers house where there was a minor child at that time. My nephew told me of the things they had to do and they had to check in and out every time they left. Had to say where they were goin and have proof of where they went. Their main focus is keepin clean especially when the urge to use hit them, no matter what the addiction was.

I agree.

I believe it's been reported several times the men there have no sexual crimes in their past. Only addicts. It's not a half way house for people fresh outta jail. It's a sober living house.

The difference is these people have a place to go, but due to their addiction issues, it's better for them to live in a place they won't be exposed to whatever their vice is.

Nothing is impossible as bad people don't always have a record of their crimes. However, it appears they've already looked into the home.

Thinking out loud... There are woods nearby, any locals know if there are any hangout spots around there? I remember growing up there was a small patch of woods in our subdivision and it was a place us kids would meet up in and hang out. Just a thought. MOO

Curious question:

Who gets the reward money if he is not found safely? I read the checks were made out to the PD. Do they get to keep the money if not given as a reward?

I hope not because I feel that would be counterproductive.

If Harley saved himself like JC did, I would hope he would get the money.

I have been reading online studies about excessive screen time and teenage suicide risks. IMO, Harley spent an excessive amount of screen time online in the extreme sense. My thoughts are that Harley had a meltdown after his phone broke and had any electronic device taken away if true. JMHO based on my readings. Excessive screen time linked to suicide risk

Cleveland 19 posted a new video on their Facebook page but I can’t figure out how to link it here. Mom/Chief made a statement.

Mother of missing Port Clinton teen: ‘Harley, we love you. Please come home’

*Video of Chief Hickman making a statement to the volunteers this morning at link.

I believe HD's dad is the person standing next to him in the video.

Chief Hickman reiterated that LE believes that image taken that Friday morning at 6:08 am is of HD.

Chief Hickman also states that HD's path of travel on Friday was "southbound down the alley, toward Magruder Hospital, which is believed to be his normal path of travel when he goes to school from reviewing the video footage that week."

That would have HD walking in a southwesterly direction, not southeast, that morning.
That's a definite change from what the Chief said in an earlier presser.

This would mean that the overwhelming likelihood that HD WAS in fact heading toward school that day when he disappeared.

JMO.
