OH OH - Harley Dilly, 14, walking to Port Clinton High School, 20 Dec 2019 #2

The Chief first reported that Harley headed south from his home to the alley in the televised Dec 26 press conference and said that was his normal route to school.

Toward the alley and down the alley are two very different things, imo. In the direction of the alley is very different than down the alley or through the alley. I don't see a predator lurking in their vehicle in an alley. How would they know that from HD'so videos?

No, it's much more dangerous to walk down an alley while it is still dark out than to be walking on the sidewalk to school.

I'm afraid this was an unfortunate accident and the person responsible is afraid to come forward. Hit and runs occur often.

I haven’t been able to follow this 100%. Do we know if the confiscated phone was given to LE? Do we know if the phone is undamaged and usable? Do we know it didn’t disappear along with Harley?

That is Heathers dad in the video (check candle vigil reports for confirmation).

Also this is yet another big contradiction by the chief. So now he’s saying he was walking the direction of school on his normal route.

I don’t understand all these contradictions and at this point I think the only actual fact we have is “Harley is missing.”

I think Heather's dad is the one standing next to her wearing the pink tee in the other video that another poster shared.

I think (not sure) in the video I linked where the Chief is speaking to the volunteers, the guy standing next to the Chief is Harley's dad, based on SM pics.

They're 2 different men, for sure.

both the chief and HD's mom were mostly speaking directly to harley it seemed to me. also got the feeling they both think harley is in control in that if he wanted to he could just come home and not in a captive situation and at the same time there is a search. in the press conference of 12/26/19 that was posted the chief seemed to think harley was a runaway at that time. hopefully LE has some information to substantiate the runaway idea and can not share it. perhaps harley has made contact with someone. i have hard time balancing the need for search with idea he is somewhere just needs to be talked into coming home. if harley is alive and captive but the captor allows him to watch these news clips that's got to be terrible for harley. i want to pass along that during some searches last night i ran across an excellent documentary on a boy in IL that ran away.
it seems to be a new crime series and Robert Bee [the child] is the first case. the Bee series itself has been done in the past 2 months and is ongoing. if interested search for
Ashes to Ash TV on youtube.
Awesome, thanks so much for the info.

He doesn't have his phone with him per LE.

LE has stated that HD's phone was "broken."

For whatever that's worth.

He may have had a burner phone that his parents didn't know about.

Hit-and-run isn't a bad idea but in this case, what did/would they do with the body? I'm unfamiliar on stats as to which or how many perpetrators would attempt to drag the body away, for fear of being seen.

Just a thought: does anyone know if within the area of HD's house and direction he was walking, there are any bus stops? Probable he was walking so early to catch a bus?

There aren’t any public transit buses in Port Clinton. There are community buses but they would have been checked. These usually are used by seniors or those who can’t drive just to get to the grocery or dr appts. within the community only.

There’s a greyhound station and a bit more public transport in Sandusky. But Harley would have needed a ride from someone to get there.

This is very interesting, and I had not thought of this. It meant everything to him, didn’t it? Despite his diminutive stature, Harley could be “a big deal” online, and was working hard to grow his fan base.

You are 100% right. Taking away his connection to the world he had created was likely a horrific blow to this child.

amateur opinion and speculation

If Harley is out there, afraid or unwilling to come home, I think an appeal to him which acknowledges this loss to him while also stating that it was done out of parental fear of danger or harm would be valuable. I also think a promise to bridge over the loss by figuring out a way for Harley to have some of these vital connections while also finding ways to do it as safely as possible would help.

I am heartened that these direct appeals by Mom and the Chief with Dad standing nearby have been made. Perhaps they have a tip and need Harley to come forward voluntarily, knowing that life will go on without the wrath of God coming down on him AND without severe interruptions to connections he has made and values.

Yes. That is Marcus Dilly in that video with the chief at the search.

Pretty sure I remember the chief saying that Harley did not take his usual route that morning, and now he's saying that he did go his normal route.. that's annoying how very simple, but very important, details keep changing drastically.

Also HD's mom has said she absolutely doesn't believe he ran away, but then is begging him to come home.

I feel like even after all this time, there's no way to know any real details about this case. It's really frustrating

Are you familiar with alleys? At 6:08 am it is still dark out. Many garages open to the alley. There really isn't much, if any, view while backing out of a garage into an alley. If someone backed out into an alley at a slow speed they could fatally hurt a person with little or no damage to their vehicle.

It's dark, it's very early, no one is around. The houses are far enough back, trees block views, there are no street lights in alleys. Adrenaline pumping, someone could easily lift a small 100 lb child from the ground to their vehicle. Really no dragging involved. Put the kid in the trunk and drive off to a remote area to dump a body.

An accident very near home would explain why there is only the single grainy video of Harley and he is not seen anywhere again.

I work for a school bus company. We are extensively trained on safety. The things we see....... the distracted driving we see, it's unreal.

unless i'm having big memory issues, i remember the chief stating in one video news conference that the high school was southwest of harleys home and on the morning in question harley walked southeast, away from the high school. i need to go through them again to find that statement by the chief.

This isn’t an alley with garages facing it and cars don’t even commonly use it. There are only three garages near the ally and all but one (I believe) all face the main road. I can check tomorrow to confirm.

Just bringing forward this earlier post of the press conference Chief Hickman did back in December.
He talks about the direction HD was headed in the video starting at around the 4:00 mark.
Basically, all LE knew at that point is that HD was headed South in that video image.
The 150-acre search was focused SouthEAST of his home.
Chief said that was because there were "no wooded areas" to the west.

If I'm understanding what the Chief said correctly, they do not have HD on video at other spots on the route to school where they would have expected to have seen him based on prior days' footage. So there's that.

Whether HD was headed in a southwesterly or southeasterly direction, is (or at least was) not known.

Accident/ misadventure certainly can't be ruled out here.
Pretty much, nothing can be ruled out.

Your map is showing an alley that goes to Magruder Hospital, not the school.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that he appears to be crossing the street in the still photo released which implied a southeasterly direction. I could be wrong but that was my recollection. Also I don’t think we pulled that out of thin air, that he was not headed in the exact direction of school. I believe that was implied by the chief early on, so it’s unsettling to hear different all this time later.

The chief specially said he walked through the alley south toward Magruder hospital. He likely cuts across somewhere to the school after the end of that ally.

The Chief said in the Dec 26 press conference that Harley would normally go south down that alley and then later west toward school. He did not specify whether Harley would normally turn west halfway between Fifth and Sixth (on the alley that turns east mid block there) or whether he would go south the full block until he hit the Hospital parking lot and then turn west. Perhaps they don't know.

Edited to correct: WEST instead of EAST. smh

School is to the west, not East FYI
