@dkryder I don't know a teenager who isn't exceptionally talented at spinning the story in their favour. I would consider it part of their remit.
My own deserved to win multiple Oscars...

I’ve never met or knew of a 14 year old that was a absolute well behaved pleasure to be around 100% of the time.

And can’t hide a key under a rock? At 14 why not have his own key to his home?

He might not have been allowed to be home alone. I've taught middle school and high school and many parents don't feel comfortable leaving their kids alone until they are 15. My brother had no disabilities that would affect him being able to stay home alone, but he was not allowed until he 16. He was too impulsive. And if you've ever met a 14 year old, a lot of times they are irresponsible with things. I wouldn't be suprised if Harley lost a key or 12 so he wasn't allowed to have one.

I find it extremely unlikely if Harley was not allowed to be home alone, yet would be allowed to disappear for a few days or not come home at night, without a phone to call or say where he is, and no one is even bothered or alarmed that he hasn't been home in 41 hours....

I’m always baffled by this. I either got extremely lucky or did something right bc I’m now 1.5 teenagers in (one still in teen years) and I find them to be mostly delightful. Including most of their friends.

Everyone is like “oh god teenagers are awful!” and I just love the teen years.

To be fair, this describes almost every adult on the planet as well.

That's what gets me. I just can't believe that they didn't start calling around to friend's houses or reach out to people he knew on FaceBook to see where he was. I can't remember if it was Friday night or Saturday night that they went out of town to eat, but if my kid was missing I definitely wouldn't be doing that. Even if they thought he was mad and having a meltdown/temper tantrum I'd still want to know where my child was.

The most obvious solution to that issue is that they thought he was at a friend's house. Which obviously needed to be confirmed but wasn't, at the least.

I have a 13 year old. I am uncomfortable leaving her home for more than a few hours and even that is pushing it. She has lost multiple keys, and once, left the house and left the door unlocked. She does have a key but doesn't really use it. The rule now is that if she is home alone, she is not to leave or have anyone over. (She has friends in the neighborhood so this is tough.)

That said, when I am home and she does leave, she knows she better have and answer her phone before mom comes looking for her. She could NEVER "disappear" for more than 15-30 minutes at a time.

I agree. And this was the Friday/Saturday before Christmas when family is often together preparing for the coming holiday (buying gifts and groceries for holiday meals, enjoying pre-Christmas festivities and meals out). Harley is a teen and teens often choose friends over family at such times, but we’re told Harley spent most of his time at home.

It just seems there are so many coincident explanations for oddities in family behavior which both caused delay in discovering Harley missing and which also have complicated the search for him to this day. None of those lean in Harley’s favor; they all lean in favor of “sure, that was probably negligent, but it wasn’t unusual and it was Harley’s fault.”

I don't disagree that some 14-year-olds are too impulsive and/or immature to safely be left home alone for any significant period of time.

However, if that's the case, then leaving said impulsive and/or immature teen locked outside of the home brings even more attendant risks.

There are just as many, if not more, unsafe situations kids can get into outside of the home as there are inside of it.

Locking a kid out is ****poor parenting.
In a lot of states, it's illegal.

If anyone has the timestamp of that video, I'd be curious to know what the temperature was outside the day he was locked out.

JMO.

Does the city of Port Clinton use a landfill or is their trash taken to a huge incinerator? tia

There are discrepancies on the time he left in the morning.
I believe the video surveillance camera showed that he crossed the street at 6:08 am. His school, 6 blocks away, apparently didn't open doors until 7:30 am.

I think he went out the door and across the street in case his mom was watching out the window. Then he doubled back home, came in whatever door was furthest from his parents' bedroom, and went back to his room.

Yes. Also in what direction he was headed. Mom saw him didn't see him. She spoke to him, and there's a differnce, but she can't elaborate because it could jeopardize Harley. Her droning on about irrelevant crime shows, and them getting solved in an hr. ( yeah only fictional shows). I'm sorry but is Barney Fife leading this case?

BBM:

Now, THAT's an intriguing theory.

I know, I think they're sweet and also funny. Probably because I was a teenage B myself and thus identify; but I do my best to remember what it was like.

Long time lurker. It seems most long time lurkers always have a case that finally prompts them to make the leap and join the WS family, and Harley is that case for me. I’ve followed religiously almost right away. In fact I created an account the day the scanner chatter thread was created because I had to know what was going on.

Idk if I’ve ever seen it mentioned, but Harleys phone - that it seems we cannot get a straight answer as to if it was broken, or taken away, but I’d imagine would have some very good insight as to if he has been communicating with people from online. This is where I’ve pretty much been at from a bit in. Whether he went to knowingly meet them, or they found him. I’ve never seen any msm, LE, or family say that his phone has been reviewed. Be it broken or not, I’m certain data can be accessed by the right people. I’d be hard pressed to understand how LE wouldn’t have already done this. Just surprised I haven’t seen anything saying such with all the times I’ve seen mentioned that he did not have it as of a week prior to missing. ‍♀️ I certainly may have missed it.

I check this thread a hundred times a day, praying for some positive outcome. Oh Harley. Please come home.

the difference is home alone means he could be messing around with mom and dads stuff or perhaps doing something else he was not allowed to do whereas if he was allowed to disappear for a few that's most likely a short vacation for mom and dad.
