So how did his jacket get hung up?

Investigators picked it up and moved it out of the way when they were trying to get him out of the chimney?

I would think that they'd have knocked on every door nearby Harley's house and questioned those neighbors. And when nobody answered at the unoccupied house, they'd have went back and tried again. And if nobody answered there again, then they'd follow up on that, too. Like try again until they get somebody or try to contact the owner. Apparently they had no trouble contacting the owner yesterday to get permission to search..

So, the explanation that LE didn't know until yesterday that it was unoccupied is ridiculous if they were doing actual police work trying to find Harley. I mean, what, did they just go "Welp, I guess those people aren't going to talk to us. Moving on!" after nobody answered the door there..?

my opinion only
Even Barney Fife would make sure that house got checked.

I’ve been following since day 1 (of him being reported missing) and all I can say is, I hope, he passed away quickly.

May he Rest In Peace now!

Oh. My. God. Harley. I am so sorry! And I don't believe they checked "multiple" times, either.

"Thorough" investigation? Not when a child has been there over a month and you just found him yesterday. They knew how smart he was. They did NOT search that home.

Ita.
Yeah I think not.
A conflict of interest.

Wow! ! Just wow! If that's the truth of it... Its disgusting.

LE was inside the house taking photos for 6 hours last night? Of what?

I’ve been desperately holding in my tears. I can no longer.
This is the saddest outcome I’ve experienced in all my years of reading here.
Thank you everyone for participating in this thread.

I can’t get the thought out of my head as to how awful this was for Harley. How long was he stuck alone in there, and hoping for help to come somehow....

That poor child. May God rest his soul. I am believing that he is at peace and in a much happier place right now no longer struggling with life's disappointments. My hear is breaking right now,

Wouldnt he have been screaming for help?
He should have had a phone dang it.
Jacket and glasses outside the flute/ flu?? So in the pit the fire place?
Hmmm I know nothing about chimneys, stays pretty warm here

Just horrifying. If they checked the house the first day they would have seen his jacket on the floor and could have saved him.

  • #274
That's just awful. What a terrible tragedy.

There will be a lot of second guessing and finger pointing, I'm sure. The failure to report early on, the way the investigation was handled, just the general lack of urgency, but I hope he did not suffer. I can't bear to think of him stuck there, scared and cold, for however long before he passed. God, this is just absolutely gut wrenching.

Yeah, they didn't search that house. It appeared from the outside that it was secure, but damn, i think you'd want every vacant house searched. I get that's quite a feat, but my gosh.

So it appears to be an accident
"Appears".
Even if it was accidental, if they'd looked that Fri. night after he didn't show up at school --he'd be ALIVE.
It would've taken a while for him to die. Most likely two weeks or more.
He basically starved to death.

Dammit
I'm so angry.

I want to know if Harley had been living there. Evidence of food, books, etc.
Had he been going in and out?
Was the first trip down the chimney his last?
