Early today I think I saw discussions about a coat hanging on a doorknob? Was that after LE found his coat and put it there or where did that information come from? Does anyone else remember that discussion about the coat hanging on doorknob?

The coat could be seen through the window of the home hanging on the corner of what appeared to be a closet door or a door on the local news live streams last night.

Crime scene investigator reportedly was wearing a camera and media said she was seen photographing the evidence which I'm sure included the coat after it was picked up off the surface it landed on after HD pushed it down the flue.

Hmmm??
Reportedly, the homeowner talked to a news station (19News) and said there was no fireplace in the home. Don't know if WTOL/11 chimney expert aware of this...
In many old homes, the fireplace mantles and bricks are removed. The fireplace openings are then covered with drywall because they are no longer used. The flue and chimney still exist.

This report by Journalist Paul Orlousky about 6-7 hours to suffocate bothers me. Jan 5, 2020, Journalist announced his retirement -- not sure how responsive he will be but hope he will confirm if this information quoted directly from Ottawa County Coroner’s Office.

Yes, Paul Orlousky is a very good journalist. He will probably follow up. Wow, I feel old knowing that he's retiring.

Its just a strange decision HD made to do that. ykwim?
So why would he have taken his glasses off and dropped them?

they could fell off his face

There was a picture of an officer taking a sledgehammer in the home last night. I’d imagine, they needed to remove the drywall and then careful use the sledgehammer on the bricks.
That is exactly what I'm thinking. Remove the drywall and then physically break out the brick from the chimney.

Yeah, as bad as it sounds, he was most likely head first into the chimney and his glasses fell and his arms were out in front so his jacket went next., God, it hurts to post this.

Surely they could contact the owner and ask for permission though? It just seem so obvious to me... it's a logical place for him to be especially considering his habit of not coming home at night.
It's beside the point that he would have been dead already, they didn't know that. He could have been alive and just injured or hiding from everyone.

What finally made police go into the house ?

So horrible to think about this, but, we don't know which way he went in. If he went in head first, then the glasses could have fallen off of his face. I would think he threw the jacket down, thinking he would get it after he descended. If he went in feet first, he wouldn't have had room for the glasses get down the stack.
Just the information that his glasses and jacket were outside the chimney on the second floor, it tell me that he was head down. If he were feet first, there is no way the glasses were outside the flue.

I don't know that we know this answer, but there must have been the smell of decomposition. It would have been outside of the home too.

A sudden slap up side the head saying, damn! We need to search the house closest to his own house that is vacant! Sorry, I just couldn't resist, nothing about what you posted at all.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -The morning after the body of 14-year-old Harley Dilly was found, it was the Ohio Attorney General’s office that canceled the Statewide Endangered Child Advisory.

The Attorney General’s office maintains websites listing all of Ohio’s missing persons, including the 552 children currently missing in the state.

The state also tracks adults, there are 740 missing from Ohio.

I don’t believe he went head first. It’s possible in his panic he took them off (glasses & coat) before he was wedged even further. Curious to know if his shoes were still on.

also, before everyone is too hard on the chief, he did have a good and accurate idea about Harley voluntarily running away.

He did spend a lot of time making those personal appeals to Harley that made no sense to more than one person on this thread at the time; and he probably did track down the leads suggesting to known predators, so there's that.
Oh no! I can't even.............................He treated this as a runaway and did not even consider that he might be dead. The very fact that he did not allow searching, and I'm still don't know how much searching, if any, that TES was allowed to do, is all I need to know....there is absolutely no excuse for the negligence of duty in this case............................JMO.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I can totally understand him wiggling out of his jacket, but to intentionally losing his glasses, hell no.

My heart breaks for Harley and his family . I can’t judge the parents . youth with personality disorder are hard on a parent and a lot of times help isn’t available you gotta fight for it . Parents handle it differently sometimes it’s really hard and a lot of rebellion .but the le I’m angry at them even last night after Harley’s sister posted the police chief said no body. Can’t believe him he’s trying to cover his butt because he messed up really bad . Rest in piece Harley
Sorry, but I just can not forget that Harley was locked out of the house and had no where to go.

So, is this a correct assumption then, that even if he didn’t get stuck and he made it down all the way, he still wouldn’t have been able to get out bc there was no fireplace?

ETA: But his glasses and jacket made it out?

heartbroken.

Poor Harley. He suffered at the end. I can’t get that out of my mind. Stuck, cold, can’t breathe. Panic.

search efforts seem lacking in detail, the video was taken near the home he was found in and we never got the big picture on the video content except one still shot. This case like most, the first 24 hours were the most important, yet any helpful info trickled out like a leaky faucet throughout this investigation. Disappointment.... and a heavy heart today.

Yes, the owner said there was no fireplace which means the opening was gone/covered up. There WAS a flue opening though. Flue openings (round holes about 8 inches in diameter) are usually not permanently plugged because they can be capped and are needed to clean the flue (should it ever need to be cleaned or be used again for a furnace or a freestanding, modern fireplace).

People posted photos of flue caps/openings on this thread earlier today.

At some point, most likely rather quickly, this poor kid probably realized he was in big trouble. I can see him being in a absolute panic and his glasses coming off or him taking them off to try to move, try anything to get out.

Maybe because I’m a little claustrophobic, the thought alone takes my breath away.
