Crews weren’t able to find 5-year-old Isaac Schroeder by 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Fort Jennings Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page. The group organized a search again in the morning starting at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Rec Club at Fort Jennings Park.

I hope there isn’t water nearby

The park they are organizing at in the morning is right next to a river. I haven't been able to find all the circumstances of the disappearance yet but I imagine that if the search party is gathering there that the water is an unfortunate possibility.

It must be unbelievably frustrating for family when the searches are postponed until morning. For a 5 year old child, can they not use torches or lights?! Helicopters? Dogs?

Just feels like precious time lost.

I hope they find this baby

It is 10:35pm Eastern Time. I am listening to the Putnam County Ohio scanner and there are still searchers out there. Just stated they (he) are (is) looking in a field by the river one more time before they regroup at the home.

They are clearing out after searching river, fields, woods and around residences. Cleared the chopper from the scene. Search to resume tomorrow per scanner.

my heart hurts

IMHO helicopters are a terrible idea for an autistic child.
A lot of autistics have Sensory Processing Disorder which can cause extreme reactions to sensations like bright lights, noises, smells, tastes and textures.
The loud noise of a helicopter may trigger a meltdown or even worse a shutdown. And at the very least could (& would, probably) be quite distressing because I’m sure he’s already terrified. MOO. IMHO. IMHAspieO.
I could go on and on (and on) about autism/ASD but I’ll refrain, for now.
Anyway, I am hoping for a positive outcome, sooner rather than later!!!!

ETA: Here for you Isaac!

I understand and have autistic relatives, I just think finding the child a.s.a.p is the most important thing.

MOO

"Hundreds of volunteers arrived in Fort Jennings by 7 a.m. today to help search for a missing child with autism.

Crowds estimated at more than 500 people lined the roads and sidewalks of Fort Jennings Park to sign up to help at tables at the Rec Club. They’ll comb through the area looking for the boy despite a downpour of rain hampering their efforts.

Deputies, police, EMS and fire crews searched along the Auglaize River on Wednesday afternoon and night without finding the boy.

Crews reminded volunteers to stay in groups of at least two people and have cell phones with you. They urged people to stay away from the river and wooded areas after dark so no one gets lost or injured.

Dive teams and boats from the Continental Fire Department, Delphos Fire and Rescue, American Township in Allen County and Allen Township in Hancock County assisted in water searched. Other agencies who assisted in the search included the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio State Patrol and LifeFlight."

"Officials asked people with kayaks and canoes to stay away from the river.

Brubaker said helicopters with infrared heat sensors are ready to deploy but haven’t been allowed out yet because of the rainy weather.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call from the boy’s mother, Sarah Schroeder, at 3:09 p.m. Wednesday. Brubaker said the child likely left his home through a garage door."

As the search continues for a lost child, our crews are assisting local officials in the Fort Jennings area by closing highways in the area. Visit http://OHGO.com
to view the closure on SR 189, SR 190, and SR 634.
