Matthew Kaleb Pierson entered pleas of not guilty to all counts in the case involving the murder of his 5-year-old niece, Jada Beth Williams, in a video arraignment Tuesday afternoon in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

charged Pierson with aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.

Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins said in a statement that she decided not to seek the death penalty because only one of several legal factors weighed in favor of capital punishment.
