The family of James Mundy, the Springfield man fatally shot on a quiet street corner a year ago, is still searching for answers about who killed their son and why.

Springfield police said they’ve been following potential leads and have persons of interest but they think one piece of information from the community could crack the case...

Mundy was shot once in the leg at the corner of Rice and Josephine streets on June 15, 2015, police said.

Neighbors in the area of the shooting said they heard men shouting at one another before gunshots rang out.

“I heard arguing and then ‘Help me! Help me!’” Tammy Wilson said. “Then a gun shot — it sounded like he was scared when he yelled”...

The shooting was the second scene of shots fired on Rice Street in two days, according to police records. Officers also investigated a report of shots fired — but no injuries — along the same stretch of Rice Street on Sunday night.

The Springfield Police Division is asking the public for information about a two-year-old homicide...

Since the shooting, Detective James McCutcheon has been following potential leads. Several names have been brought up he said and they have been investigated but it has not led to any arrests.
