Do they have a way for people who donated to inquire about the status of the funds, what they are being used for, when they anticipate using them for the PI that was the stated reason for the fund raising? If they aren't careful, people will begin to report them and ALL of that money will be returned!

Not that I'm aware of but yeah I agree with you and that people may begin reporting if something is done with the money soon and I'm just hoping I'm wrong but I just have my doubts about so much with this case.:shame:

I hope it doesn't come to that, but I also feel people have a right to their money back if they don't feel it's being used wisely....I checked the gofundme rules and it mentions something about the donations not going toward what they were collected for in a reasonable timeframe...but I guess it's a matter of opinion what a reasonable timeframe is in this situation.

I just did some checking and found a few Facebook groups for the Arnold Classic, I didn't see Joey's info on any of the few pages I browsed through- think it'd be worth a share on those pages?

Yes! Most definitely! I didn't even think about browsing for pages like that because you never know if someone may have seen or knows something outside of the area. Great Job! :happydance:

I was just about to post this; there is a place on GoFundMe to report a campaign you feel is committing fraud, and the 'donations not going towards the stated purpose' is one example of that. For everyone's sake, especially Joey's, I hope something is forthcoming soon or I'm sure more than one person is going to get agitated about the lack of transparency.

I had to request membership to two of the groups I found...they don't seem to be strictly for the Columbus Arnold (are there more?)- I was approved for one and tried posting a comment with a flier I found online for Joey...but apparently before the post is visible it has to get admin approval, I'm hoping the admin will post it. Still waiting to be added to another group. I really hope I'm not stepping on any of the family's toes or anything here by posting, I just felt like I needed to at least try this avenue...

I did participate in the search a few weeks ago around this area and nothing was found as far as I know of but would definitely be interested in searching again.

I will search with you !

I have to agree with you here. Even if they want to delay in hiring a P.I. I think those funds could be used in other ways to find Joey (billboards, more missing persons posters, etc.). But I initially thought it to be strange when he had only been missing a short time and there was already a gofundme. Also I would really like to see a specific Facebook or other page set up just to give details/updates on the case. I live just a few miles north of Union and driving down high street haven't seen any flyers about Joey- it would make sense to me to get his face out there as much as possible- especially when the short north is a frequented area for people from all over the city.

There are so many loose ends in this case, and I really think that more information would be so helpful- a lot of what I've been reading/hearing doesn't add up. His cousin
said he thought he was just going to get another drink, his dad said he got distracted walking back to his car (why would you assume he was walking back to his car if he never said goodbye to the people he was with), his aunt said he was driving (so why wouldn't you check if his car was where he parked first thing instead of a couple days later), then the jumbled text which didn't look like the person even bothered responding....these could all be simple irrelevant things that could be explained with just a little more context/information.

I hate to agree with the other comments but I really think we should start checking the bodies of water- the current has been moving pretty fast and could have easily carried any evidence a ways away by now- so a big search party would be nice...how can we go about getting one together?

I will go on one !

I will go on one !

I will also help search. I have a kayak so if several others here would like to form a search of the water and have access to a kayak, john boat or canoe, we could search the river banks and river bed. I've first mentioned a search of the Olentangy and Goodale Pond when the original search party was formed but didn't get any interest on the BRAVO site (where the initial search was posted). It's worth a shot though. Assuming most people on this site are aware; most males missing late at night from bars are typically found in a body of water, it's pretty likely he could be also. His car was parked roughly 1/8 mile from the Olentangy River. The water was running high and fast when he disappeared. Being that it's been over two weeks, if he did fall in, he may have came loose from whatever he may have been snagged on at the bottom and surfaced by now. There are plenty of low-head dams he could be washing in also. If not a body, there may be clothes on the river bank. I'll keep checking in here to see if there's any interest in doing so.

Please do it. You are on the right track. Your assumptions are correct. From studying so many previous cases you may find him.

Folks some posts have been removed regarding the discussion of the fund me page.

Since it's a link that's not allowed here copy and pasting from it is also not allowed.

Also NOTE: Websleuths does not condone members becoming personally involved in cases by initiating contact with family members, law enforcement, or the media. This does not preclude responding to a request for volunteers, or utilizing proper channels to report valid information, i.e., "a tip", to law enforcement.

Please read: RULES: WS ETIQUETTE & INFORMATION

Just reviewing while we wait in the silence...

On a positive note - it does seem likely, important info has been obtained & LE is connecting dots:

Snipped...
...On Friday, Columbus police said surveillance video from the bar did not yield clues. A spokesperson for the department said the video was poor quality and that, while detectives had reviewed hours and hours of video, they couldn’t find him in the crowded bar.

...Joe and Liz LaBute said they’ve been coming back and forth most days between Columbus and their home near Cincinnati. On Friday, after speaking with NBC4, they said they planned to meet with Columbus Division of Police detectives.

One more tidbit to add --- BRB with it...

ETA: it's here...

Snipped...
...Volunteers gathered early Saturday at the Short North headquarters of Stonewall Columbus, an advocacy and programming organization for central Ohio’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. After registering, volunteers were divided into groups that heard from a Columbus police officer before searching an assigned area.

The Short North, Victorian Village, Italian Village and Arena District were divided into 41 areas to be searched, said Sam Schisler, chief marketing officer for the Union Cafe.

He said police received a number of leads from participants. “It was overwhelming, all of the support of the community,” he said.

Here's hoping...for Joey's sake :please:

Well, that is frightening. Where exactly were you? I understand that there is alot of people that just "mind their own business" and turn their noses from situations like these. Are people scared? If I were to witness something like this, I would like to say that I would immediately take action... at least call 911. But, I have never been in this type of situation before really. In all the cases I have seen like this, people that decide to "mind their own business" could have PREVENTED the situation from happening.
In regards to Joey's case, I don't personally believe that he was attacked in plain sight in front of the bar (or in the bar)- whatever happened to him, happened out of the public's view (after vanishing). However, I believe that he DID leave with someone and that someone saw him leave that bar. Wish I could review the tapes from Union. I am not really buying into the video being too grainy. I hope the cousin was able to review the tapes.

This was a few doors down from Skullys

This was a few doors down from Skullys

Skully's is farther north on High St.
I am hoping surveillance videos from every single bar/restaurant/shop up and down High St was taken.....

I reread rules and became aware that we cannot post a meet up. I will keep everyone informed if ever there is a search posted in the local area though.

O/T but has anyone read anything about the Ohio Wesleyan college freshman Luke Gabbert (from Columbus) that was found dead in a stream up in Delaware just north of C-bus?

This happened on a Friday night, February 5, 2016, and he was out at a pub partying with a buddy and around 12:30 he vomited inside the bar. He was then asked to leave and after seeing a police car parked out on the street, he and his buddy decided to split up and walk back to their dorm separately.
His friend made it back fine, but Luke never showed and he was found dead in a nearby shallow stream the next day.

He didn't drown and had no tramatic physical injuries. COD has yet been to be determined. Medical examiner is still waiting for toxicology results. This boy was an athlete and very well liked.

Just another sad, strange case that makes you go hmmm...
