Found Deceased OH - Joey LaBute, 26, Columbus, 4 March 2016 #2

I was glad they brought up the smiley face killer theory as well. I was thinking it the entire time. SFK, Missing 411 A Sobering Coincidence. Some people on this thread laugh the theory away but I defiantly think there is something there

Smiley Face Killer theory is pure nonsense. Always has been.

The anonymous post on a Columbus Dispatch article gives me chills. The idea that someone would go through the hassle of creating a fake Facebook profile simply to post a sick and cruel joke on Joey's expense is truly awful. It's probably just another internet troll but it makes you wonder if it's connected an anonymous message made by someone purporting to be Brian Shaffer.

I'm afraid you're so wrong. Smiley face killer theory is much less about the graffiti as it is the victim's all fitting the same description and BMI. It's real for over 20 years and over 200 victims. Keep an open mind and do some reseach on your own and you will become a believer.

Is anyone beginning to think maybe this bald guy is a POI and no one has a clue who he is? As in, he was a stranger to The Union. But, why is everything so hush hush? This case has been so quiet from day one.

This is coming full circle for me. I've always thought he was probably drugged by a stranger that had premeditated the crime with a specific type of victim in mind. I don't know if being gay necessarily fit in with that, but Joeys looks, personality, demeanor and trusting nature likely did. I just feel this guy is a strong POI--why everything is so damn secretive with this case, I have no clue. If this guy was was gay and from Columbus, I would think that someone would have recognized him by now. Imo

I agree. I just wish they'd quit referring to them as the smiley face killers. I don't think all these young men's deaths in the midwest are coincidences at all. Too many are chalked up to accidental drowning.

This was found on the Columbus Dispatch website and Facebook ? I can't view the Columbus Dispatch website because membership is required. I wonder if is was made by a jilted want to be lover -or- by the perp themself ? It's really hard to say, but it is sick IMO.
I agree with your sentiments on the sfk. Correlation does not imply causation.

If you're referring to the post that was made on Brian's obituary guestbook, I believe that was determined to have come from a library computer in Columbus. If I recall correctly.

Ugh. ABC 6 is reporting on Medical Examiner's report today. Final cause of death is undetermined. There were high levels of ethanol in his system, which could be from drinking alcohol or a result of decomposition. The report confirms that Joey was dead prior to entering the water. There was no water in his stomach or lungs. Other than that, they have no info on COD. I'm afraid we may never know how he died or who put him in the water.

When the coroner said there is a high level of ethanol (alcohol) in his system, is that totally inclusive ? In other words, is that all ? Sometimes, people will mention one part of a list of things. Then, people will walk away thinking that is all there is since that is all that was mentioned.

I don't understand why, if no one was responsible for his death, why would they throw him in the river.

Where are you getting the idea that no one was responsible ?

I didn't say no one was responsible. Re-read what I wrote and how I wrote it. He could have died from alcohol poisoning.

THANK YOU

it's a disservice and IMHO insulting to Joey to just chock it up to this conspiracy theory. The same way I don't believe other missing people were taken by UFO's

Here is the link to the news report. The ethanol (alcohol) may not even be present from drinking but rather a result of the decomposition process. So basically, the final report gives no hints as to COD.

I am just not sure how he would've died, unless something like strangulation or suffocation may not show due to the level of decomposition (??just an utter and complete guess on my part??).

Do you not believe he was targeted by a psychopath and murdered?

I'm not trying to be an *******, really but it just seems off to me to not at least be open to the possibility that these cases aren't related in some way. Maybe I'm off, truly I'm open to that but the cases have so very many things in common it's just hard for me to think otherwise.

Correlation of events does not imply causation. Two events occurring in close proximity or commonality to each other does not imply that one caused the other. It is called Affirming the Consequent. It is common & tempting when faced with the unknowns to attribute events to a conspiracy or some runaway serial killer.

I was in Columbus last weekend. I used to live there, but have been gone over 15 years. I went with friends to Axis, but declined to go to the Union with them earlier - I'm still creeped out by this case.
