I was just thinking about Joni and Brian the other day. This is such a sad case, wondering what on earth could anyone have possibly gained by their deaths, if that is indeed what happened. Prayers continuing for them.

I'm sure LE knows things that we do not know- but my gut has been from Day One that they are wrecked/ in the water somewhere with their crappy car (and I say 'crappy' as someone whose main form of transportation during her SAHM days was an old-enough-to-vote crappy car)

From the article:

“[SBM]

Belmont County Detective Sgt. Randy Stewart said a ‘no holds barred’ investigation has included the use of cadaver dogs, dive teams with sonar gear, aircraft flying hundreds of miles and investigators with search warrants seeking evidence at homes.

[SBM]

Stewart said there are persons of interest in the case and that investigators are ‘looking at people close to the family.’ He doesn't think Goff and Davis will be found alive.

‘I think it will take a confession or the reward to lead us the location of the bodies,’ said Stewart.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said that a reward will be announced soon.

[SBM]

[Brian] Goff and [Joni] Davis met at a picnic around 25 years ago, and had been a couple ever since, [Joni’s sister] Jackie Davis said. Their relationship became complicated when Joni at age 35 failed to wake up one morning and remained in a coma for months.

[SBM]

Jackie Davis said their mother cared for Joni until the mother's death five years ago. Goff then assumed that role. The couple lived with Goff's twin brother, Colin, at Colin's home in Martins Ferry.

[SBM]

Goff's brother, Bruce, who lives outside Columbus, is not optimistic.

‘You just have a feeling there was some foul play involved,’ he said. ‘And, if that's the case, it's very unlikely they will be found alive.’” (BBM)

New information about missing Belmont County couple

Photo of couple and interview with Joni’s sister and brother in law.

“Joni's Sister's Fiance, Paul Newell said, "For him and her to disappear with her handicaps and the way he treated her, it's, it's not right. Something's wrong."

Joni Davis' sister Jackie said Brian Goff stuck to routine and structure.

Davis said,"They at at the same places daily. He had his routine. They would eat. He would go to the gas station on the Island for his cigarettes, Reese Cups and a lottery ticket. He would stop at Arby's in Aetnaville."

And they haven't turned up at any of those places. They said Joni and Brian were not spontaneous. They would not have decided to take a trip on a whim.

The Belmont County Sheriff's Department and the family have searched for a week.”

From quoted post,
Davis said,"They ate at the same places daily. He had his routine. They would eat. He would go to the gas station on the Island for his cigarettes, Reese Cups and a lottery ticket. He would stop at Arby's in Aetnaville."

This was the daily routine.
What about on a Sunday when they went missing? Pizza on Sunday afternoon?
Is the gas station on an island? Maybe Wheeling Island? Should be video if he bought a lottery ticket.
Has the brother's house they lived in been located?
Is there a map made for this case?

I still think they have run off the road somewhere. They need to check under bridges, overpasses, and forests and deep ravines. What about retention ponds near their home?
A light blue car may be hard to spot from the air.

The car would look similar to this I would imagine... Maybe the paint being faded even more...

On the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of a Belmont County couple, a reward is being offered for information that would lead to their discovery.

The $5,000 reward was announced Monday morning jointly by the Belmont and Jefferson County sheriff’s departments in a news conference in Belmont County. Both departments, along with the FBI, Ohio BCI&I and the Ohio State Highway Patrol have worked on the case, searching on the ground, from the air and even in the water in ponds and lakes.

Sheriffs announce $5K reward in missing couple case

Brian-Goff-and-Joni-Davis.jpg

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Sheriffs in two Ohio counties are offering a $5,000 reward for information about a mild-mannered couple missing for the last year and now feared dead.

Belmont County Sheriff David Lucas and Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla in eastern Ohio announced the reward Monday concerning 65-year-old Brian Goff and 56-year-old Joni Davis.

They were last seen June 10, 2018, on a surveillance video heading north on Ohio Route 7 in Belmont County after leaving a Pizza Hut. Authorities say the last ping on Goff’s cellphone was in neighboring Jefferson County that day.

Authorities and family members have acknowledged it’s unlikely they’re still alive, but are confounded why anyone would have killed them.

Abdalla says foul play is suspected and people who’ve been questioned have failed stress and lie detector tests.

From that article you linked (TY @ADKGemini!), the following quote stood out to me:

"They were last seen June 10, 2018, on a surveillance video heading north on Ohio Route 7 in Belmont County after leaving a Pizza Hut. Authorities say the last ping on Goff’s cellphone was in neighboring Jefferson County that day."

Here is a map of Jefferson County, Ohio, where the southern edge of Jefferson County is approximately 5 miles north of Brian and Joni's residence in Martins Ferry, Ohio (it wasn't stated where in Jefferson County Brian's phone pinged):

Why would Brian and Joni drive past their residence in Martins Ferry after eating pizza at the Pizza Hut in St. Clairsville? The location of the Pizza Hut came from @KJ's Mamu's map in Post #5.

There was another quote from that article that was very interesting:

"Abdalla [Belmont County Sheriff] says foul play is suspected and people who’ve been questioned have failed stress and lie detector tests." BBM

I think of Brian and Joni often and hope that someday they will be found and laid to rest properly. May justice be served.

Amen to that!

Not so sure a $5k or $10K reward is enough for someone to rat out in this case. If the last known visual whereabouts is on the Wheeling Island at the convivence store (not a very safe area) they were probably hijacked or carjacked as someone or somebodies wanted to exit that area quickly. Who (person or persons) left that area at the time and haven't been seen since? Have the local authorities checked with US/Canada border control if that car went across as they probably changed plates if that's the case? After a year this will be a tough case to crack but have fingers crossed.

Man. If that's true it seems to me the person or persons of interest were really wanting to get out of the area fast, as these folks attire and vehicle don't fit the typical target if you will. Good point!

No updates on Brian and Joni? This is nuts. How could these two people just vanish like a fart in the wind? Not one speck of evidence that shows foul play or anything such. I had read where the local sheriff has some suspects and no report or update on that either. Does anyone have any news on this case?

  • #76
I have not been able to find any new updates. Based on post #70 above referencing lie detector tests, I think Brian and Joni knew the person/people responsible for their disappearance. I just keep hoping that evidence will appear and justice will be served.

Martins Ferry couple still missing after 18 months
my first impression is that they would be found in water since the car is also missing, however, the article indicates that the Jefferson County Sheriff believes it was foul play.

I'd thought they ended up in water, too, Dre, but now I haven't a clue, or an idea :( I do think of them from time to time, and hope they won't be forgotten.

No news on Joni and Brian??? This is unbelievable and like they just vanished into thin air! I cant believe the car has not been found or any other clues have been released to the public. Keep digging local law enforcement.
