COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A judge has set bond at $3 million for a man accused of killing his wife.

Austen Medek appeared in court Tuesday morning, several months after his wife, 41-year-old Michaela Medek, was found dead in their home back in September.

When officers arrived at the Medeks' home, they found Austen doing chest compressions on his wife, a mother of three, in the upstairs bedroom. Police reported seeing blood on her face, on the ground around her head, and a hammer above her head.

In the media release, police identified her death as potentially being linked to domestic violence.

A preliminary investigation report, entered a few days after she died, says Medek was found on her back, unresponsive, on the bedroom floor. She had blood on her face, and there was a hammer next to her head. While being evaluated at the hospital, she had no brain activity.

The initial report before the coroner's ruling noted there was no trauma to her head consistent with foul play.

REALLY curious as to why they initially ruled against foul play in her death and why it took 3 months to arrest him when the article states the alleged murder weapon was on the ground next to her when officers arrived. Seems like extremely poor investigative work, unless I’m missing something…

On the same day that she died, Austen went on Facebook and decided to share the news about Michaela’s death in an awkwardly worded social media post.

“This will be the hardest post I’ll ever do,” it began. “As most have heard my Beautiful wife, my rock and Mother to our 3 precious children, passed away Thursday, September 11th at 1pm in the afternoon. Michaela Medek was not an easy one to convince to be my girlfriend, in fact it took a long time to break down her distrust in men. But over time and lots of patience she finally agreed to ‘go steady.’ Our relationship to each other was always a continuous improvement for both of us. Eventually growing into our faith and more. I don’t have enough space to tell you everything about how beautiful My Kayla was,” the post concluded. Just know she was my complete world and Im lost without her. I will continue to make Jesus a priority to the kids and myself to ensure we make it back to her in heaven.”
