According to authorities, the shooting happened around 1 a.m. in the 1300 block of East 171st Street.

Authorities say that 6-year-old Lyric Melodi Lawson was inside a house when someone outside opened fire and riddled the home with bullets before driving away in a dark colored car.

Lyric was transported to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the head where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call police at 216-621-1234.

The shooting remains under investigation. Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any information.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, a drive-by shooter fired nearly 30 bullets into her East 171st Street home.

Police said Lyric was shot in the head and later died at the hospital, and another family member was grazed by a bullet.

“If I knew our safety was at risk, I wouldn’t have been in that house, our kids wouldn’t been there,” said Deirdre Selmon. “She (Lyric) didn’t deserve that.”

“We need as a community to stand together. We need to organize to prevent these types of atrocities from happening again. If we are not safe in our homes, we are not safe anywhere,” said Sister Alonda Sales, organizer.

“Our children are walking. Unless we start to clean up our own mess, none of this will change,” Sales said.
