This one is baffling. He just vanished, with no trace. I can't even find a record of any stories done by our newspaper.

Welcome, Dave O'Brien! That really is baffling. As a member of the press, perhaps you could ask the detective in charge of his case for any additional details? Namus has updated their database since the original post of this thread, so here is the new link (without redirect) for Mohan Vellanki's case: Missing Person Case The contact is Detective Carl Cassell of the Kent Police Dept Or Lisa Savage of the Ohio BCI. Perhaps one of them would be able to tell you more?

Mohan has now been missing for 35 years, and there is little information about him. It appears his family has a number of physicians and there is reference to him being possibly from Canton Ohio, not far from Kent, that a brother was killed in an accident in India a few years prior, and he may have had another brother but it's very unclear. Why wouldn't the family or news sources/police have more info/advocacy about him? I have a suspicion that it's possible Mohan is still alive, possibly returned to India even. I had a case of another missing person, thought to have disappeared, supposedly missing for years from Cleveland area of Ohio. Was able to determine she was alive and well back in her native Philippines! I told police where she was listed, Ohio attorney general site, and NAMUS and, last I knew, they accepted the update. Could this be the case for Mohan-i don't know, but I do believe it's possible.

The photo of Mohan on his official pages is a senior portrait, so it's about 5 years out of date to his disappearance, he might have looked pretty different by '85. I found his junior year portrait on Classmates, it's even less current to his disappearance but since there's only one photo of him, I figure it can't hurt to share.
