Sex - Female
Height - 5'4"

Circumstances: Maue was last seen getting into a van driven by her lover, Ray Phillips, at 2 PM on June 25, 1982. She had begun an affair with him when her marriage started to collapse, but Maue wanted to end it due to Phillips' violent temper.

Maue left behind her husband, their 11-year-old son, an uncollected paycheck, and all her clothes. She left a goodbye letter that stated that she was going to New York with Phillips. However, a handwriting expert determined that this letter was written under stress. The expert also said that Maue didn't address the letter, but Phillips likely did.

Phillips denied seeing Maue the week she vanished and he was never charged with any crime. He died in a car accident in 2004.

There is one Doe I found from Oregon with an uncanny resemblance, but the timing pretty much rules it out for me. On the other hand, I wonder if she could be the Nassau County Jane Doe. If it's likely, I'll make a table.

When was the Oregon Doe found?

Wow, there really are some similarities, though. Sketch matches, both 5'4", both have brown eyes. At least dentals and other clues seem available. True, the dates don't match, but what if the abusive boyfriend trafficked her or something like that? Had everyone looking toward the east side of the country but took her west? I know it's a reach, but I wonder if they have dentals for Phyllis.
These are two very sad cases.

These are two very sad cases.
Also, both women had cesarean section scars. There are some things that could come up as abuse but could easily not be, like the rib fractures and Jane Doe having lost a substantial amount of weight shortly before her death. I really hope Phyllis has dentals available.

And I *think* sometimes older cases appear in NamUs because they are currently comparing the MP to a UID who is already in NamUs.

Sometimes this is the case. Take Nellie Gillespie for example. On a side note, her NamUs was removed, but the Doe she was being compared to's profile is still up. I believe it'll go down in the coming weeks though.

1993, 11 years later. This is the case I was referring to.

The issue is this Doe was cremated, meaning her identification is unlikely. In Phyllis' case, IMO, the timing is too off to be a match.

This possible match is a mixed bag IMO. Some details line up perfectly with Phyllis, which almost confirms this in my head (The height, C-section scar, and uncanny resemblance to the sketch), but there's also numerous differences (distance, timing, lack of other scars, fractured ribs, and Phyllis weighed less than Jane Doe).

Details of Disappearance

Maue was last seen in Norwood, Ohio on June 25, 1982. She left all her clothes behind and she never picked up her last paycheck. At time of her disappearance, her marriage was having problems: she was having an affair with a man named named Samuel "Ray" Phillips and her husband had gotten a nude photo of her in the mail. Phillips had a violent temper and Maue was afraid of him.

She told her friend she was going to end the affair and met with Phillips on the day of her disappearance to do this. One of her friends saw her get into his light brown Chevrolet van one block from her home at 2:00 p.m. that day, and that was the last time anyone saw her. When questioned, Phillips denied having seen Maue at all on the week she disappeared.

After Maue disappeared, her husband got a letter postmarked June 26 that said Maue was going to New York with a man she had met a few months earlier. The letter had been mailed from Cincinnati, Ohio. A handwriting expert determined that the letter had been written by her, but while under stress, and that the address on the envelope had been written by someone else. Maue's husband does not believe she would have abandoned their son; he said he thought if she was going to leave, she would have taken the child with her.

Phillips was killed in a case accident in 2004; he was never charged in Maue's case. Investigators believe foul play is possible in her case and that her body is buried somewhere in the local area.
