PIKE COUNTY TRIAL: I'm back from breaking news. And court is back from lunch.
Dr. Karen Looman is on the stand again - she'll testify about Dana, Chris, and Hanna's autopsies - she performed them.

Dr. Looman is now describing photos of Dana's body as it appeared before the autopsy. She performed that on the morning of Sat 4/23/2016.



Dr. Looman says Dana had about six large pieces of bullet fragment in her head - is showing a side x-ray of it.
She says Dana had 5 gunshot wounds.


These are Dr. Looman's diagrams of the injuries to Dana's head.



Dr. Looman says the first wound she looked at went right to left and the bullet dropped below Dana's brain. Shot from intermediate distance (less than 3 feet).

Wound 2 was similar to wound 1 with entry on the right side of the forehead, according to Dr. Looman. She couldn't determine how far the shot was from Dana.

Wound 3 is close to wound 2 in location, but different.
Dr. Looman says the bullet grazed Dana's forehead, grazed the skull, pieces of it went into brain, and the rest continued up.

Dr. Looman says the fourth gunshot wound was just above Dana's right ear in the hairline. She says it was shot from an indeterminate distance (more than 3 feet away).

Dr. Looman says the fifth gunshot wound was along Dana's right chin, breaking her jaw. Shot from less than 3 feet away. It would not have been lethal.

ETA: Still trying to figure out why Billy W still hasn't taken a plea deal. From what we've seen so far, it's a very clear case that he was one of the killers.

I think for Billy and George, they can each claim the other was the one there shooting if they wanted. Jake admits to killing 5 and he admits all 3 were present, but then where the doubt comes in if there is no DNA or fingerprints, then who else was shooting? Could be Billy, could be George, could be both. I think that is how each defense can be holding out with not guilty. It'll be interesting to see what defense George's lawyers use and then what Billy's lawyers use.

I guess they're desperate for any strategy, with 2 confessions already and so much evidence against them. It's still a huge gamble and both will probably lose. For the attorneys, its extra $$$.

If Billy sticks with going to trial, its probably going to drag out for another year. That will really count against him - all that taxpayer money wasted and 7 years of delayed justice.

It would also be a typical Wagner strategy for father and son to throw each other under the death penalty bus. Sick people. Family loyalty, sure. JMO

in canepas opening she quoted jw describing danas death... he shot her multiple times and then went to kill hanna may. dana was "making noises" so jake went and shot her again. sub human garbage

yep. Go to Evan Millward's Twitter and scroll down to Sept. 12 opening statements. It is all explained there. According to JW BW used .40 Glock on CRSr., GR, KR, JW used Colt 1911 .22LR with silencer on FR, HHG, DR, HMR, CRJr., JW used .30 SKS with silencer and hit CRSr. arm, GW was supposed to use SKS but did not, JW took it away from him and fired. (not sure if I believe that but can't disprove it)

Dr. Looman says the first wound is a left to right - shot from an indeterminate (more than 3 feet distance).
Wound 2 was behind Hanna's left ear. Also shot from an indeterminate distance - greater than 3 feet.

So JW shot 6 times into the door of the trailer and only managed to hit CRsr once. With that bad of an aim, those babies are extremely lucky he didn’t miss HG FR and HR and hit one of them.

Agree, but the doorway wasn't moving. A lot of the shots hit the side of the trailer and next to the doorway. All he had to do was shoot through the doorway. He only hit his target once.
