Carroll added CPD's investigation indicated Russell had been dead between 24-36 hours. That did not match the timeline of events in the Ohio case. But this afternoon, Assistant Chief Carroll said solid evidence developed, "About an hour ago we got confirmation from dental records that it is in fact Richard Russell. According to what we were told they were killed in Ohio and dumped here." The autopsy also revealed the 84 year old man had been stabbed in the chest, with the wound "penetrating the heart."

I read in one article (but now can't find the article) that it was a "blunt stab wound." I don't remember seeing that before. What kind of weapon would that be? Screwdriver maybe?

Now could the sand road he was talking about actually be red clay soil?

Could he have driven on a dirt road instead of a sand road? Perhaps a red clay dirt road?

I know that red clay soil is common in the Deep South. And I know that red clay soil is very common in Georgia. But is red clay soil common in Tennessee?

Now if he recalls being up an hill, then I say he would have to be somewhere in the Chattanooga or Northern Georgia area rather than in Southern Georgia where the terran is flat.

Looking at a road map, I see that Chattanooga is in a tri state area. Alabama is also near Chattanooga, so it could be a possible than he might have went thru Alabama.

Perhaps there are half truths to what SL is telling LE but the puzzle is greatly distorted. I do think they will find the bodies near eachother. Who knows what SL's state of mind was at this point and what drugs he may have been taking. Maybe he was "seeing" fields of white but IMO it wasn't a cotton field.

Good point. Any southerners want to weigh in on this? Whoops sorry TexasLil I didn't look at your name. You would know more than I would since I am from Ohio.

Another thing I thought of. SL said he dumped one of them in one place and got scared off because there was a passerby. So he is sounding pretty paranoid by this time. Ok, so he leaves the area where he dumped the first body, wouldn't he be most likely to presume there was a possibility that someone might call LE, that LE might show up. So wouldn't he probably leave the area and the LE jurisdiction before attempting to dump the second body?

IDK... the only cotton fields I've seen were next to or slightly BELOW the road, not above it and FLAT. Not sure about cotton growing. I haven't been near any in a very long time.

I know that Tenn uses them.

For those who aren't familiar, vehicles sometimes overheat when going up extreme grades, brakes sometimes overheat when going downhill.
So they have made ramps, usually sand that leads off of the grades, they are designed to allow the vehicle to safely exit the road, and come to a stop even if their brakes have failed. Usually found on the major roads though, the locals who travel the smaller roads don't have them. Kinda like this

Don't forget that he mentioned something about traveling thround a run down neighborhood between the dumps.

Here's another version of the description of where he left the bodies.

During interview of Littleton by Ohio investigators, it was learned that Littleton recalled exiting off I-75, traveling for a period of time on a paved road, then turning on a side road made of sand where he placed the body of Gladis Russell in what he described as a, "white, glowing cotton field."

Littleton could see that the sand road appeared to go up in an extreme incline, possibly up a large hill. Due to the presence of a vehicle traveling towards him in a distance, Littleton hurried back into his vehicle where he traveled along the same paved road back towards I-75, through "a low income area" where he discarded the body of Richard Russell.

Littleton reportedly re-entered I-75 at some point and was eventually captured in West Virginia.

Looks like he didn't go up the sand road, he just saw it.

I can't figure out the timeline for the Russells to have been killed on 2-16 in Ohio.

Mr. Russell was found on 2-26 and the autopsy showed he had only been dead 24-36 hours which would be either 2-24 or 2-25 and by that time Littlefield was already in custody.

Fudging the days a bit, Littlefield must have killed Mr. Russell the day before he was captured on 2-23 in WVa.

That would mean that the Russells were still alive when Littlefield was seen near Valdosta, wouldn't it?

I hope I have all the dates right.

I've been thinking about that too. I'm not an attorney so can't say for sure this is what is happening. But my theory is that Ohio can only prosecute for crimes committed within their borders. IOW if a kidnapping is committed in Ohio, the murder in another state there might be two trials???? But at the time that statement was made the Russell's were missing, blood was found in the vehicle and I think that LE was probably leaning toward they were dead.

I think that may have been the opening statement to having the Russell's declared dead, and dead in Ohio. That way charges could be found in Ohio even if their bodies weren't found.

Flooded field or pond maybe. Water sometimes looks white in strong moonlight.

I hope LE can find Mrs. Russell; I hate the idea of her being out there night after night, and also of an innocent farmer coming across her body while doing his chores.

The night of the full moon the street in front of my house looked light grey... I think he is playing games.
Mt Eagle, north of Chattanooga I-75 has emerg truck ramps... no fields I can think of near them

Maybe it is a dirt road at the edge of a construction site when they are moving dirt around or maybe a hill used by 4 wheelers.

OK so said Lowndes County, Ga, near Valdosta... UNTRUE
He said near a railroad track... TRUE for Mr. Russell
He said close to I-75... TRUE for Mr. Russell
He said in a "white glowing cotton field"? Well there would have been none this time of year.

What might have been glowing and white? The moon could have definitely made a reflection on an area such as a field or pond. There should have been no snow on the ground in this area of Tennessee during this time. Perhaps this is the part of his "half truths" that is the untrue. Ugh!

If he was under the influence of drugs it explains why he didn't exactly know where he was at and only recalling certain details about where he disposed of the Russells.

I am so disgusted by this sad excuse for a human being!!!

May Gladis be found soon so that she may be laid to rest with her dear husband. So terribly sad!

RIP Richard.

Wonder of he was headed up hill at the time?
