The history of Ronald Tammen Jr., a Miami student still missing after 70 years

Was it amnesia? Maybe a government cover-up? Or a case of foul play?

Theories on the whereabouts of former Miami University student Ronald Tammen Jr. continue to abound as April 19 marks the 70th anniversary of his disappearance.

Miami alumna Jennifer Wenger, ’80, is currently writing a book about her investigation into Tammen’s disappearance.

She's done quite a few interviews. She's probably going to try to claim that Tammen's disappearance in related to MK Ultra. It may be true that one of Tammen's professors was involved in MK Ultra, but that isn't evidence of a connection to Tammen's disappearance.

Agreed. She’s definitely uncovered some strange/suggestive things, but none of it may have anything to do with Tammen’s disappearance.

It’s difficult, when you’re in the midst of the sort of deep, immersive research Wagner is, to avoid all the rabbit holes. It’s easy to start thinking every adjacent weird occurrence, unexplained detail, or apparent difficulty in accessing relevant materials as evidence of something larger.

There is someone who postulates that Ron Tammen was D.B. Cooper. I will not post a link, you can search for it if you like. That one is a whopper.

There are all kinds of weird rumors out there. I heard one rumor that Ronald Tammen and Richard Cox (the missing West Point cadet) knew one another.

Tammen was only 16 years old when Richard Cox went missing from West Point. Both disappeared while college students and are still missing.

I don't recall if this was posted here before, it's a blog post, dated 2021, about Ron's mother, Marjorie.
It has a lot of family pictures and sheds some light on his family, including extended family, dynamics.
One thing which stood out to me was his maternal uncle's wife's parents, the Handchins, lived on campus while Ron was there, and he was close to his aunt's family:
(When Ron was at Miami, he was known to visit the Handschins, whose home was behind the Delta Tau Delta house.)
His maternal uncle, John McCann, was a highly decorated colonel in the Air Force. Ron looked up to him.

1938 Chevrolet Sedans similar to the type of car Ron Tammen owned. When he disappeared he did not take his car keys or his automobile.

Do we know what happened to the girlfriend at Indiana University? Why is it that she is never named? Was she questioned about any troubles they might have had? Did she help search for him? Did they even try to locate her?
Is this right, he had a girlfriend at Indiana University? Because to me, he looks like this Doe, found late Oct 1966 near Geneseo IL in Henry County which is about five hours from Bloomington IN:

Compared to Ron Tammen...

Doe had a bullet hole in the base of his skull, his age est 16-30yo, they found partial skeletal parts only, 5'5" to 5'10" it sounds like those remains could have been there for a very long time, I'm seeing up to five years in the Doe's thread (and that jmo might be on the conservative side).

Cleveland mob very strong in the 50s. Organized crime had a history in Rock Island, IL, which is about a half hour from Geneseo. There was a standing alliance between Cleveland mob & the Chicago Outfit at this time, with a lot of shared interests. And just noting, I read Ronald was playing with his band that night. The mob exerted a lot of control in the music industry in this period, including jukeboxes, and they seemed enamored with musicians generally. And of course-- gambling, which was noted by a lot of posters on here already. And the dead fish.

What I find a little odd is there was a prominent mobster, Jimmy Fratianno, who came up through the Cleveland mob, he moved to California after he was paroled in 1945. In 1953, he murdered"Russian Louie" Strauss, and that would have happened sometime that evening after they picked up Strauss on April 16. It's just a couple of days later that Ronald Tammen disappears. Couldn't help noticing it. This Doe sounds like a potential mob hit, whether it's Ronald Tammen, though...? Again jmo, but he does look like him.
