OH - Samuel Dubose, 43, killed by Cincinnati LE during traffic stop, 19 July 2015

  • #101
I think he had his gun out as soon as SD put his hand on the ignition key. He put his hand on the shoulder strap in an effort to stop him.
My take he wanted him stopped even if it took a shot to to do it.
I don't think he shot out of fear of being injured. I think he thought this guy was guilty of something and he was determined that he wouldn't get away.
IMO

I agree. And it sure doesn't look like he shot him because he was being "dragged."

Overall, a very good article. Includes a brief and what appears to be a slowed down, easy to see, version of the actual shooting. Also, lots of links to other relevant items.

The Sam Dubose Police Report Is Full of Falsehoods From Ray Tensing’s Fellow Officers

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slat...falsehoods_from_ray_tensing_s_colleagues.html

Whether or not the report contains "falsehoods" has yet to be proven in a court of law. It may very well turn out that a jury will agree with officer Tensing's version of events since his claim that he was "dragged" is clearly supported by the video evidence. Perhaps the only falsehood in the report is the statement by officer Kidd who claimed to see Tensing being dragged. According to the prosecutor officer Kidd recanted that claim when he testified before the jury. If in fact that is true (I don't trust the prosecutor) that might be the one and only "falsehood" contained in the police report.

I've watched the video dozens of times now and don't see that he was dragged. Now to be dragged, he'd either have to be entangled with the car or Samuel in some way, but this is not the case. At 1:54 the engine starts revving and at 1:55 the shot is fired. Not only that, but at 1:55 you can clearly see officer Tensing grab Samuel's seat belt. If he was being dragged, it was after Samuel was dead. Really I see no reason for him to have pulled out his gun in the first place.

Why does he grab his seat belt anyway? If he has any suspicion Samuel is going to pull away he knew (I think he would know anyway) grabbing anything in the car would lead to him being dragged (which imo he wasn't).

This was a big mistake on the officers part. Officers are trained not to put their hands inside a suspect vehicle.

What injuries did the officer report?

Ok. I live in Cincy. I have not heard about this violence.

After viewing the video numerous times, I believe the car was already moving before shot was fired.

Basically. There was no reason to shoot him. Pepper spray would have worked. But if the office was in fear of life of getting ran over why shoot the driver in the head for the car to go out of control? The car could have hit a person or another car.

A lot of weed was found in Sam Dubose car..and will Officer Tensing get his job back? New developments in the case, tonight at Ten @FOX19

According to Forbes magazine the average price of an ounce of pot in Ohio is $332 so in other words SD was driving around with about $10,000 worth of pot in his car along with $2,500 i.e. it would appear that he was a big time drug dealer.

What bothers me about this tragedy and others, is that the LEO seemed to escalate the encounter. I get that LE mostly deal with the dregs of society regardless of race, but I don't understand why they can't use common courtesy. I think LE has a hard enough job to do without overreactions on their part and that of the person they are stopping.

I can't get the images out of my mind of the cop's actions in Texas at that pool party. Nor the video of the shooting of the man in the back as he ran away in SC. As a society, are things so out of control that LE is forced to have their finger on the trigger? Perhaps everyone needs to re-evaluate how they respond to these encounters, so no more people end up dying. This is just so sad for everyone. The cop looked shell shocked in court. SMH

I don't think the officer did anything to escalate the situation. From the beginning he was very courteous with SD. He could not know that SD was driving around with a large stash of pot (see my above post) or that SD had a suspended licence. There is nothing that Tensing could have done to de-escalate the situation. There was no way that SD was going to submit to an arrest. I suspect the reason why SD told the officer to "run his name" in the computer is that he was going to use that opportunity to flee the scene. When the officer stood his ground SD decided he was going to get out of there as quick as he could and he had no concern for the officer's safety as he tried to make a quick getaway.

If it is true that SD had $10,000. worth of MJ and $2,500.00 cash, believe me, that is no"big time drug dealer", at least here in the USA, not by a long shot.

It just seemed like a perfect storm I guess. World's colliding culminating in the loss of a man's life and the loss of a man's life in prison.

From the link...

In 2014, his numbers of stops with citations, stops with arrests, citations issued and arrests totaled 273. In the same categories in 2015, his numbers totaled 360. In each of those years, Tensing’s total numbers are more than 10% of the entire department’s documented numbers in this report. Again, there were 2,510 incidents measured in 2014, and 3,553 incidents measured so far in 2015.

In Tensing’s numbers, there is a noticeable spike in citations issued to blacks from 119 in all of 2014, to 189 through this point of 2015. He also goes from zero to 9 citations in the “other” category in the same time frame. The other categories remain fairly steady with little change from year to year.

"The racial differential and flip, if you will, of the numbers is shocking. I can't explain it. I don't know why,” Flynn told FOX19 NOW.

Maybe not a "big-time" dealer but driving around with $10,000 worth of pot in your car is a big deal most everywhere and it proves how ridiculous it was for the prosecutor (persecutor?) in this case to call this a "chicken crap stop". Thanks to this "chicken crap stop" the officer was able to uncover a driver with a suspended licence and a huge stash of pot along with $2,500 in cash.

That report gave me a headache. Too stupid to understand statistics. My takeaway, Tensing was racial profiling.
