ASHLAND, OH (WOIO) - Two women found dead in Ashland and Richland counties were identified to Cleveland 19 by sources.

The body found in Mansfield last week is that of Candice Cunningham, 29, sources said.

She is from Canton. She was never reported missing. Police said Shawn Grate led them to her body last week after police found two bodies inside an Ashland home.

Police said Cunningham was murdered inside a house and taken out into the woods in June.

Mansfield police are also looking into the death of Rebekah Leicy, who was killed in March 2015. Leicy is from Mansfield, but her body was found in a field in Ashland.

How sad that Candice was never reported missing. RIP Candice.

Also from that link: "No charges have been filed in the Mansfield, Marion and new Ashland cases. The Marion County Sheriff believes Grate will be connected to more homicides."

Here's another possible: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/09/24/mothers-grisly-murder-still-unsolved.html
Alissa Clere was found stabbed and burned. Her body had been dumped in a Quarry in Franklin County near Columbus. Her daughter happens to live in Marion.

I'm getting confused. Yeah I know, not hard. Have we got 5 or 6 now?

1) Stacey Stanley, killed September 2016
2) Elizabeth Griffith, killed August 2016
3) Candice Cunningham (girldfriend), killed June/July 2016
4) "Diana/Dana" killed 2005 found 2007 still unidentified
5) Poss RL
6) ??

I might be getting mixed up and I've no idea who was found where so if anyone want to elaborate...

That's the one I was asking about the other day and trying to link him to Columbus. The whole fire thing seems to be his thing.

I hope LE got more out of him than they're releasing. The locals seem to think his lawyer is better than SG deserves...from what I've seen on several FB comments.

You've got it right as far as I can tell.
5 have been named in the media so far. While RL is not confirmed by police, the link to RL seems to be getting more certain in the wording of articles. I think LE has to review her autopsy because they declared her just an overdose that was dumped. I have a feeling he told them something else he did to contribute to her death. JMO.

The Alissa Clere link I just posted above was just a suggestion from looking for cold cases connect to Marion--since Marion Sheriff said he expects more victims to be named.

I seems to fit with him MO but would mean he had access to a car back then to take the body there and dump it. I saw a case about an older woman found in her car that was burned in another nearby county but I didn't bring it over before because of her age and we didn't know if fire was involved in more than one case. Now we know fire was involved at least twice (Candice Cunningham found behind the burned house and the 2007 Jane Doe) we can look for others.

ETA: here's the case about the woman in the car--it was in Morrow County which borders Marion, Crawford and Richland Counties: http://www.dispatch.com/content/sto...ound-in-burning-vehicle-in-morrow-county.html

That seems about right to me.
That leaves us from 2005 until 2016 with potential victims aside a couple visits to jail for other charges. That's a huge (and scary in this context) time span.

Here's another suggestion:
http://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Files/Law-Enforcement/Investigator/Cold-Case/Homicides/Steele
http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...ela-Steele-30-Marseilles-Township-4-June-1999

Angela Steele was found in her burning car in Masreilles Township, Wyandot County which is just north of Marion. Her body was so badly burned, no COD was determined.
Might be a stretch because it was in June 1999. It's hard to tell from the timeline if he was free or locked up then.
(I don't believe him that the 2005 woman was his first--he was exhibiting violence back in 1999).

The UID victim "Dana or Diana"... Was it one of those magazine scam companies in the 90s-2000s that say they are trying to raise money for a cause, yet never actually deliver anything?

Just a thought...

Promises of making it big and traveling around the country while making a lot of money sounded like a glamorous job to two local youth, but when they embarked on their journey to fun and fortune, they got more than they bargained. They ended up stranded far away without money or resources to get home. The scam involves recruiting young people to sell magazines on the promise of making big dollars, living in luxury hotels and traveling to new and exciting areas.

The companies normally hire people in their mid 20s to early 30s. A one-way ticket is provided to a designated area for training, with a promise of a return ticket if it doesn’t work out.

Could be. I think she could be from anywhere. I've looked for the names Diana, Dianna, Dana, Danna, Dina, Diane,Dianne, Deana, Dena, and Deanne and not come up with a 2005 case that seems to fit yet. It is odd that he says she wasn't from Marion but was from Ohio and his mom was mad at her about the magazine never being delivered. And how would he know her exact age-26? It makes me think she had at least moved to Marion (or gotten stuck there if she was duped by a sales scam). So, SOMEONE should have noticed her disappearance in 2005. Maybe this new publicity will bring an ex-roommate or friend forward who remembers her disappearing but thought she just moved away?

Yep. I've been looking into neighboring states and years other than 2005 in case he was mistaken. Perhaps his long term drug use has clouded his memory of that time.

you know, there was another case where a girl moved to CA to work for one of those and was hit and killed on the FWY and an UID for awhile.

this woman may be missing from a whole other area.

A quote from the Marion Star article you linked above says he doesn't remember the exact date:

According to details of Grate's confession provided by Bailey, the killing occurred sometime between 2003 and 2005 and was due to the victim not delivering magazines to Grate's mother. Grate did not remember the exact date or even the year, according to Bailey, who said similar crimes can "blend" together.

The victim, who may have been named Diane or Dana, sold and delivered magazines and Grate's mother had purchased a subscription from her, but the magazines never arrived. Several months later, Grate saw the woman walking on South Prospect Street.

Bailey said Grate lured the woman, who was in her 20s and may have lived elsewhere in Ohio, into his vehicle by offering to buy a subscription, but then killed her in the basement of a house where he was living. Two days after the killing, according to Bailey, Grate took the body to the site off Victory Road near Linn Hipsher Road

Since it was several months after the magazines didn't come, I wonder if he could have even taken another woman who wasn't even the same girl? If his memory was bad and he was on drugs maybe he saw a woman on South Prospect selling magazines who looked like the magazine sales gal from several months ago, and flew into a rage. She could be anyone from anywhere. She could have just arrived in the area that day to sell magazines. Or he could have made up the entire magazine selling part of the story...

I think it's very possible it wasn't the same girl who was supposed to have been delivering magazines.

The woman who was able to call 911 who was then rescued, was probably so happy to be rescued at that time. I wonder how she feels now knowing how much terror Shawn Grate has caused.
It would seem that 2 dead bodies would have caused some smells to emit from the house, yet he still wanted to/or did take women there> I guess with the idea they would never leave there.
I do not think there is that big a gap from 2007 to 2015 in his killings.
SO he would go to the laudramat, try to entice people with a beer or pills to come to his house to hang out. How do you have money for those things if you do not have a job?

After the story first came out about them finding 2 bodies we found out there were actually 2 vacant houses side by side and they searched both. I don't think it was ever made clear which house had the bodies and which had the living woman. He could have kept the bodies in one house and enticed women into the other house without the smell of death in it. He probably planned to set the house with bodies on fire like he had done in the past. He made a mistake in taking Stacey Stanley, who's family was actively looking for her and tracked him down to that house. He said in his first hearing he had most recently worked at Save-a-lot. I suspect he worked odd jobs long enough to get some money for drugs then he would lose the job and he was homeless off and on. We know he was homeless from June on for sure since he had been kicked out of his apartment. He could have gotten money by pan-handling or theft. People who stand on street corners with signs can make quite a bit of money in one day, at least in larger cities or a tourist areas, I don't know about Mansfield. There is also evidence he took advantage of charity programs. He was said to visit Harmony House in Mansfield: http://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/cgi-bin/id/shelter.cgi?shelter=11805
