Monique and Spencer Tepe and their two children. I'm unsure how recent the photo is.

The picture seems pretty recent, as its on one of his dental practice website. The crime is very strange. The area they live in is a decently high crime area, especially for gun violence. Mixed reporting on whether both were shot. One news source says both, then another says only one. In local reddit post someone claiming to be the brother in law is claiming its a targeted attack, but can't confirm claim is actually from family.

The area is pretty gentrified. Like very expensive homes. Like all cities you walk a ways and find bad areas.

This article has a few more details relating to the timeline.

Shooting in Columbus' Weinland Park neighborhood kills dentist, wife

Spencer didn't show up at the dental office on Tuesday (Dec 30) morning. A colleague called police at 9:03.
At 9:22 a.m., an officer reported there was no answer at the door. He left.
At 9:57 a.m., a man called police, saying he was at the home and could hear children inside.
Shortly after 10 am a man called police saying he could see Spencer lying on the floor beside a bed.
Police got a warrant and entered the house and found the children.

The friend who saw Spencer's body through a window told police he had last spoken to Spencer the day before.

thank God the killer left the children unharmed. I have no doubt if they were older or could possibly identify the murderer they would not have lived to tell the tale. :(

That is awful. Its upsetting the police were not able to see spencer or hear the kids and the poor kids were left even longer.

Not gentrified at all. They put a few nice properties up in the middle of rough neighborhoods.

My brother lived on 9th ave, around the corner from there, a few years back. They moved because their house and cars got broken into dozens of times.

Gentrified is probably the wrong word. There are really nice residences in the area nowadays however.

My female friend lives 3 blocks away from the house. She is single and lives alone.

Her words: "It is a total mixed bag where I live. It’s close to Ohio State and downtown so lots of professors and professionals -in the last 20 years the homes have been renovated and there are some well-to-do areas. However, when I went to OSU the whole area was low income and not-at-all safe, so just beyond it is still pretty sketch. I don’t walk alone after dark and if I do earlier in the winter, I stay on High Street bc it is busy and has heavy police traffic. It’s not surprising to have crime in the area. What a tragedy."

Nothing of note about either of them in Franklin County public records. By all accounts, this couple was beloved and Spencer often spoke highly of his wife and children. How sad.

See, this detail is either reported incorrectly, or it really bothers me. Without being too forthcoming, those are a series of 4 of the same homes. Same layout. All of the bedrooms are on the top floor. Some have finished basements with bedrooms but would be terribly difficult to see into that room as the window is in a coved window well. So again, either something is sketchy with the friend who reported seeing him on the floor in the bedroom, or again, it was just reported incorrectly.

Source: Our friends are next door neighbors in one of the 4 homes.

Maybe the friend said that to get the police to come back? Is it possible the friend didn't see him at all, but knew if the kids were crying and nobody was answering the door that something bad had happened.

New records released Wednesday indicate Spencer Tepe was shot multiple times, while Monique Tepe suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

The article states there were no signs of forced entry. I wonder if the home has electronic door entry.

A Columbus police crime camera sits on a utility pole a few hundred feet away from the Tepes' home at the intersection of 4th Street and East Eighth Avenue.
