OH - Spencer and Monique Tepe found shot to death at home 2 children unharmed, Columbus, 30 December 2025

The boots really stood out to me more than anything. Gen Z males don't wear boots much. I would guess this guy is 40+.
I agree with you.

The only exception that I could see would be a younger person creating a style look.

One member's daughter identified that the suspect is also wearing "skinny" cut jeans and added that this particular cut is out of style with college students. Older, boot wearing men, however, are unlikely to select jeans based on fashion cuts. Rather, I think their jeans would be more utilitarian.

The combination of boots and fashion cut jeans- though no longer in current fashion per se could suggest a younger man. Maybe with a vague fashion look such as something like "skater" or a more vague "industrial / punk light"? Then again, is there such a thing?

I suspect this is because the person pictured does not look like the person the family thinks is the perp.
So the family 'thinks' they know who the perp is? Who, what, how?

Are you saying you can guess race based on a persons gait? Can you give more information on this?

I’ve never heard of such a thing, but there is a lot I’ve never heard of.

MOO
FWIW..

I don’t know what the family thinks, but I’d trust their assessment or any ideas they have of potential perpetrators.

It still strikes me as very personal and someone that would’ve had a grudge against them, whether it be an ornery patient, acquaintance or someone else. And I’m sure the family would have some idea of who could have a grudge against them.

I do hope the weather conditions and the POI (seemingly) struggling a bit to walk on the ice means LE could trace his path. He must’ve been parked nearby, I can’t imagine he walked super far at the coldest and iciest time of night, and if he did I assume that shuffling walk was caught on other cameras. But who knows.

oh good. race science. Neither of those articles conclude anything about determining race by gait analysis.

Yeah, the study linked disproves that race can be determined by gait, not the opposite.

"No significant interactions between race and sex were identified. Males took longer steps (regular: p < 0.001, ƞp2 = 0.288, fast: p < 0.001, ƞp2 = 0.193) and had larger peak knee flexion (regular: p = 0.007, ƞp2 = 0.081, fast: p < 0.001, ƞp2 = 0.188) and ankle plantarflexion angles (regular: p = 0.050, ƞp2 = 0.044, fast: p = 0.049, ƞp2 = 0.044). Peak ankle plantarflexion angle (regular: p = 0.012, ƞp2 = 0.071, fast: p < 0.001, ƞp2 = 0.137) and peak hip extension angle during fast walking (p = 0.007, ƞp2 = 0.083) were smaller in AA. Equivalency in gait measures between racial groups should not be assumed. Racially diverse study samples should be prioritized in the development of future research and individualized treatment protocols."

This study does provide some data to back up the video showing a male, but nothing to indicate race. The idea that race can be identified by gait is in line with phrenology. JMO

Not often in cases the family tries to undercut LE leads. I think he should probably just let them do their job JMO

Seriously! I agree/was thinking the same thing. This quote from BIL, or possibly the way in which the journalist edited his quote (?), is really unhelpful. I’m trying to figure out WHY a family member of a murder victim would react to Police’s video of a POI by saying, “It could just be a drunk person walking home from a bar.” Why? What purpose would it serve, to cast doubt like that? Why would they not reiterate to the public, something like, “Police think the person in the video had something to do with our family members’ murders, or has important information. If you recognize him, please call the Police and report what you know.”

Is it mistrust in the Police’s work? Was BIL just speaking off-the-cuff, and the journalist unfortunately worded the quote that way? Does BIL have his own strong thoughts about who the murderer is, which conflict with what he sees in the video? I have so many questions.

I’m also thinking, the Police don’t always tell the public the truth. They’re strategic about what they say or show to the public, and how much, and when, and about what they choose to hold back from the public. These are legitimate strategies, used to protect the integrity of the investigation, protect victims or survivors or family members, misdirect the suspect, or tighten the parameters of the tips the public reports. Some people might misinterpret LE’s strategic, careful releasing and withholding of information, and misdirection, as LE being “shady” and “lying” to the public… but it’s not like that. It’s a normal, necessary part of LE’s work.

A family member who’s unfamiliar with LE tactics like this would be more likely to talk with a journalist and cast doubt on what LE has released, if said family member doesn’t understand or doesn’t agree with what LE is saying. But I wouldn’t expect a family member who works in journalism himself to publicly cast doubt on what LE are saying…

….unless that family member’s comments, too, are an intentional strategy/misdirection to somehow BACK UP the Police?? Sometimes LE will give family members more information about their investigation and strategy than they give to the general public, of course, and they will enlist the family member(s) to help by saying or not saying certain things when they do media.

Am I maybe going down a rabbit hole too much? Do I watch too many crime shows? I could be way off base. I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on why in the world BIL would have gone on record to doubt/question LE’s investigation. How could that actually help?

Hopefully the person in the video will come forward and clear themselves if they were not involved. They possibly witnessed something that may be helpful in solving the case.

There’s more in the video at the link below (which is almost entirely police radio and 911 calls relating to this case) and when I heard it, I understood a little better why people were irritated. I don’t hear it as being terribly bad, though – about what I’d expect from dispatchers who are trying to weed out inappropriate and hoax calls.

(Edit: the channel owner has disabled embedded playback but you can click through to play it.)
Thanks. I never watched plunder before. I still didn’t hear any overt rudeness. The dispatcher was surprised, as many here were, that the boss calling for a welfare check after 1 hour or so of the dentist being late was strange so she did ask follow-ups, but accepted his answers and dispatched officers.

To me, it looks like right beneath the top of the hood, the dark oval shapes look like sunglasses, a nose, and then a mustache.

Probably not at all accurate, but I do see a face as well.
I see the same exact things.

<modsnip: Quoted post was removed>

Since it was not a crime of passion the possible perp might choose to wear comfortable well-worn clothes for a task like a double murder in the likely event they get soiled so as to then discreetly discard them without losing any wardrobe items that might be noticed as missing by others.

It looks to me like ripped front jeans with dark sweat pants or some kind of base layer underneath the jeans.

all imo

You’re right about camera footage. It also seems like criminals have become more bold even in the presence of cameras, because they know it will be difficult to identify them without a license plate number.
At the start ,did LE state they were interested in footage of a vehicle

Brother in law is acting bizarre from day 1, why are the police letting him talk so much? Strategic?

Mystery Deepens in Columbus Double Homicide Case; Former NYPD Weighs In

As Columbus, Ohio Police release new surveillance footage, former NYPD Sgt. Joe Giacalone says investigators will focus on whether the suspect had access to the home before the shootings

~snip

The police are trying to determine a couple of things here,” Giacalone said. “One, was the suspect already in the house? Was he lying in wait?” He noted that while surveillance video appears to show an individual walking behind the home after the homicides may have occurred, detectives will be looking closely for any footage that might show the same person entering the residence earlier in the day or evening. “If they did have access to the house beforehand, were they invited in?” he said. He additionally questions if Monique Tepe was possibly “collateral damage” in what could have been a plot to murder only Spencer, since he was shot multiple times.

Giacalone added that investigators will likely combine surveillance footage with cell phone data and internet records to build a clearer timeline and determine motive. He said police will also try to track how far the individual seen on video traveled and whether that person ultimately got into a vehicle. “Does he go to a car? How far do they have him going down the block?” Giacalone asked, noting that license plate readers, red-light cameras and street surveillance could help identify a vehicle’s make and model. “If they have that information,” he said, “I think the police will release that very soon in regards to this case.”

If so, the children would be beneficiaries, and they are not likely suspects.

It looked like he hit himself in the head? Im sure this has already been discussed, though.
