She was found in my hometown. I was 2 in 1981 and only heard of this case recently. So sad and I hope she is given her name back soon.
You know, I went back and re-read her stats on Doe Network (they just revised her posting).....from her body description AND the scars listed, to me, it seems like she was a gymnast. Think about it; wear on tear on the wrists; the ankles; etc. Just my 2 cents....

I have a question. I've been haunted by the pictures of Buckskin Girl since I first saw them. She looks identical to a friend I had when I lived about 20 miles from Troy. I had only known her a short time and this was during the fall of 1974. She was 16 at the time and had been moved from foster home to foster home. She met a boy and married him two weeks later and no one heard from her or him again. At the time neither had a job and I have no idea where they went or if she's still alive. She was beautiful, 5'5, 130 lb., chestnut hair, brown eyes, freckles and perfect teeth. She and I wore our hair in braids all the time. Should I try to contact them when as far as I know she hasn't been reported missing?
There are posters on here who are amazing at finding people in year books etc. If you know her full name, and would be willing to PM it to somebody on here, I'm certain that they would be willing to help.

I'm relieved to know she's probably still alive but saddened that we're no closer to identifying BG.
I have reported Wendy S. Byron as a possible match to the authorities in both California and in Ohio. The investigation continues but the promising thing to me is that Wendy's Name has still not been added to the exclusions list.
I wish there were a way to hurry things along.
Yes, she's been brought up before. I'm sure she's been submitted numerous times. But idk if she's ever been ruled out using scientific means.
One of the clues that I find most promising about Wendy Byron is that (according to this article) she announced her intentions to come to Ohio from California - to change her identity.
"Robert Byron's sister said he told the family that Wendy Byron had moved to Ohio and changed her identity. Byron also said he spoke with his wife years after her disappearance, but nobody from the family had ever spoken with her."

You could be on to something, and anything is possible. Let me tell you why I doubt this is our Buckskin girl, and state upfront that none of my assumptions have any science behind them. First, based on the explanation Wendy Byron's husband gave of her disappearance....well...highly suspect, at best. The story of him speaking to her years later and whatnot just isn't believable. Again, anything is possible, and I am just stating opinion and speculation only.
Second, that would have made "Buckskin Girl" 27 at the time of death. She looked much younger, much.
Finally, I don't see anything about this gal's appearance that says "California". I'm a Cal-gal myself, and she doesn't have any of the trademark looks of a Cal-gal. But of course, looks can be deceiving.
All this being said, it's certainly worth a rule out.
I can appreciate your input and even some of your skepticism but I submitted over a year ago and still she has not been excluded. Wendy's name has not been added to the exclusions list - despite the availability of DNA in both cases. Of course, my hopes are high that it's a match and that both cases can finally move on to finding the murderer. However, if the DNA is not a match, I will accept those results and keep searching. Did you see my post about the dental records, yet? I thought that was pretty telling too.
"If you'll note - in Wendy's photo, she has a seriously chipped front tooth. And according to various sources, our UID (found three nearly years later) has a crown on tooth #8 (see attached). That's the same tooth shown chipped in Wendy's photograph."
