Sharon Smith was reported missing by her family right away and her case has been active since. The description of her height and eye color was not from their long term memory. I'm certain it's pretty accurate.

I recently read about this story on Reddit and thought she looked like a friend of mine from Denton. The date of her death shocked me because it was around the same time that my first kid was born and the last time that I saw her. I even remember her having a jacket that could have been the same one that she was wearing. She was more of a friend of a friend. I also remember her because her nickname was Pippi. My understanding was that her father killed her mother years before and she was living with her aunt who at the time wanted her out for whatever reasons. I checked and could not find Pippi on FB or any trace of her on the internet. I am a bit uneasy about pursing this because I just had a nasty run-in with the law and don't want any unwanted contact with cops.

Denton fits in with the north texas connection! Do you happen to know a last name of Pippi?

You could always call in an anonymous tip.

hello, new to forum. i would be interested in the Denton girl name...that would be a good start!

I know her first name was Mary or some variant of that and her last name was Irish. I remembered that because this older lady made a comment that her last name was good strong Irish surname after she said it and people were pronouncing it wrong. The fact that she was found with braids is shocking and unsettling because that is what I remembered about her. The reconstruction is a deadringer for her but the morgue photos look off. She looked more like a young Lindsay Lohan from what I remember. I might have group pictures with her somewhere. It was 35 years ago though.

Would she be in a yearbook photo? If so, if you provide the HS name and an approximate year, someone here can look it up.

Oh no. I did not know her from school. I had already graduated and am pretty sure she was not in school either. I don't recall her ever mentioning school. My friend met her at another party and invited her to some of out get togethers. She did not talk much about herself and I thought she was just a bit weird. One of our friends complained to the friend who hung out with her that she was "cramping" our style by hanging out with us and that is when our friend said that she met her at a party and about her family situation. I think Pippi mentioned that she had a younger brother which came up because she liked the Carpenters. I can't remember the last name though. If I heard it then I could confirm it. That is the other reason why I don't want to reach out to the cops because I don't think it's useful information. Also the morgue photo doesn't look right. She looked like this:

Do you remember if her name was a Mc- or an O'- name, or one without either of those elements? It might help you remember if you could browse lists of typically Irish surnames as it might just leap out at you.

Since Pippi is not an obvious nickname to derive from Mary or any of its derivatives, I wonder if her middle name could have been Phillipa. Since so many women of Irish extraction were given the name Mary in the past, it does seem possible that she might use a middle name more if she was indeed a Mary.

Are you still in contact with the friend who introduced this girl to your group? If not could you track her down and ask what she remembers?

Poor girl. It does sound as though she had a really rough start in life. Maybe the "weirdness" was simply shyness or lack of self-confidence. One could also wonder whether maybe she was slighly autistic or had Asperger's to some degree.

I suspect the name Pippi would come from Pippi Longstockings, a children's literary character with red hair and dual pigtails.

If BG always wore her hair like that, the name Pippi would be an understandable nickname.

Yes, that does sound likely. I had't really thought of the children's book, but it does seem to tie the girl from Denton to the one found in Ohio.

That's what I thought, too!

That is correct, but she also dressed like and was a bit quirky like Pippi Longstocking too.

I really hope this leads to something. She's been nameless for too long.

Thank you for posting. You can give the info to an acquaintance to phone into a Tip Line, or mail a letter to a Medical Examiner's office with a fake return address.

I understand the reluctance to deal with the law, my ex had a lot of problems with the cops (veteran with TBI.) It can get tiresome. I'm so glad you shared.

Strike out. I found a classmates.com profile for her. Married, works for a phone company, and so forth. Alive.

Whoops. Sorry Carl, and thanks.

That said, the list of classmates is online. I hope our poster that knows "Pippi" will go check it out.

This sounds promising. I posted earlier the thought of deceased parents as to why no one looking for Buckskin Girl. Anyone have access to old newspaper archives to look at murders in the area maybe in the 1970s? Most Google searches lead you to pay for use sites.
