I read that on the FB and thought it strange as well. Why wait til after dark to search???? and he mentions it will be 28F. :waitasec:

Maybe, if they are tied up somewhere in the woods/abandoned house... you might be able to hear cries for help when its quieter at night.

Just a random guess.

They could also be working swing shifts at this point; searching 24-hours a day.

Just a question... I am trying to catch up here. Does Tina's ex-boyfriend, who lived with her, have a SOLID alibi? I understand he was out of town... is that typical for him to go out of town, like for a job or something? If not, I wonder if somehow MH knew he'd be gone.

Sorry if I am being redundant.. just trying to understand.
I've been wondering about him, too, and whether he knows/hung out with Hoffman. I don't know how solid his alibi is. I'm also wondering if he got involved with the search efforts and what his demeanor has been like for the last week.

IIRC Borders stayed at a friend's or his mother's house Wed. nite, and then he was golfing on Thursday when his mother called him to ask if he'd heard from Tina. Remember, Hoffman's parents have a home very close to Tina's (not sure if they live there or own another home), so it seems possible that Borders knows Hoffman.

There's been speculation about how Hoffman could get 4 people under control by himself, plus the pickup truck was dropped off at the campus. So it seems possible that there could have been an accomplice. I didn't see any MSM/LE announcement of what vehicle(if any) were found at his home when Sarah was rescued.

HTH...

OK, I just watched the 6:30 PM news on WBNS 10. The first seven minutes of the newscast was on the girl and the missing family. WBNS had a lot to report, so here it is.

WBNS reported that Matt Hoffman has criminal convictions for arson and burglary from Colorado. He used 10 gallons of gas to set a condo on fire and endangered the lives of those living in the condo. He served a prison sentence and was ordered to pay a two million dollars restituiton for the condo arson. He only paid five grand so far in the restitution. It is not known if he is on parole from Colorado.

The neighbors living near Hoffman told WBNS that he was a weird, creepy person. One neighbor told WBNS that Hoffman wanted to punch a 8 year old neighborhood kid in the face. Another neighbor told WBNS that Hoffman had a domestic situation with an ex-girlfriend a few weeks earlier. Another neighbor told WBNS that Hoffman frequently went to a park near the neighborhood that used to be an old gravel quarry.

WBNS is reporting that the three other family members still haven't been found yet and LE are still searching for them.

 This sounds like a very troubled guy wanting to hit a neighbor kid in the face. Sounds all too familiar. A guy who likes to frequent a park. Hmm.

If it were my family I would be searching 24 hours a day. I am sure LE has questioned Sarah if she is well enough to talk. Terrible for what that young girl has had to go through. Let's just pray the other three are not harmed and that Sarah does know something that can help find them.

According to a cousin on the FB site, Sarah's grandpa says she is at home with her father now.

The park was shown on the WBNS 6:30 newscast. From what I understand, this used to be an old gravel pit that was filled up with water and turned into a public park. The newscast did show people looking around at that park today.

It sounds like this guy's sentence wasn't long enough and didn't help him at all. The guy almost killed many people with his arson act, then he graduated to much more horrible crimes.

In 2001, Hoffman was sentenced to eight years in prison.

"I don't want to make (your sentence) too long," the judge said. "I want you to have hope and take advantage of the programs in prison."

If he threatened a child, those women would be under his complete control. IMO, they would comply with any demand in hopes of saving the kids. MOO, Most Mothers would do whatever he said if he made promises to let the kids go or something....... Just a thought, now off to read all of the details that I'm sure I have missed

Do we have a release date on MH? I can't find one...

someone had to have seen him creeping around the house or around Sarah.

let us look back to the last thread when one local poster said that the house had been ransacked before but not reported. was this him?

they have been able, infofar as we know, to question Sarah since at or around 8 am this morning... that is nine hours ago........... so:

Question: are there current searches going on????

I'm a couple of pages behind on this thread, but I did check the FB page and saw that there's a search going on of a gravel pit.

As for the ransacking..............I think it's very possible that it was the suspect. His parents house is close enough to Tina's and he could have easily observed their comings and goings, and knew when he could enter the house.

How could this guy own a house after being in prison for the past 8 years and then probation. Parents give him money?

Does he currently have a job? I wonder if he did some type of "home improvement" work for Tina?

  • #173
perhaps she has not been able to communicate much yet? ((or at the time of the presser))

another thought is perhaps the others were not killed in front of her ((((sooooorrrry to be so graphic!!!!!!!!!!!)))))

perhaps she was taken to the house and tied up first?

just a thought>>>>>>

and I am HATING this case btw.. fwiw

I think it's very possible that Sarah was separated from the other three and may not know what happened or where they are. :frown:

If Sarah had her phone, why call a friend ... why not call 911 directly? Maybe someone did report MH as a creepy neighbor.

That's a very likely possibility. I'm thinking in terms of Sarah having to press keys quickly and secretly, so hitting 911 would be easier that hitting a friend's number and typing "help."

*Davis said Hoffman did tree trimming work and had built a fire Wednesday night in his backyard, where there was a mound of ashes Sunday with tree parts on it. She said he walked to a nearby park with a lake almost every day and was a "nature person" who collected leaves.*

Im trying to read up......i dont remember what day they all went missing....does this fire have anything to do with the other three missing :(

add: ok...it was wed that they went missing :(

They disappeared on Wednesday. I hope he was burning evidence. Not humans.

What a nightmare crime for family and people who live in this area. To think that 4 people, two of whom are adult women, in a home would not be safe is just downright frightful. What is the world coming to? Do you need security guards at your home to be safe anymore. This guy would have to be insane to murder three innocent people to kidnap a young girl. Surely they all saw his face, unless he wore a mask or something, when he entered their home so what would somebody like this think at that stage. Would he think he could get away with murdering 3 people. I sure hope not, but what else could he have done with them. I just can't see him tying them up somewhere and leaving them, but I guess you never know what goes through a person's mind like this.

Sorry for getting a bit OT.

YES....haven't found the case thread yet but YES I wanted to respond to your post because I have thought of that case too in terms if possible similarities to this one. BOTH of these cases are horrendous.

the case i was thinking of: Kristy Frenley, Roaring Springs, KY.

quite horrendous. of course everyone was suspicious of ex-husband, or thought maybe the mom had a boyfriend that was responsible. turns out it was a stranger who had seen the mom doing yard work. if the mother had not survived, the man probably never would have been caught.

these cases seem similar.
