I don't see anything on the FB page about a night-time search being discouraged (to whomever said they saw that).

It wasn't the nighttime search being discouraged - it was the post about the gravel pit earlier this afternoon. Someone posted it but wouldn't say their source, and several folks complained b/c family members are on that FB site. The report of what had been found at the gravel pit was quite upsetting. Folks suggested it be removed. I looked and didn't see it after awhile - it may/may not still be on there...?

I had to be gone while making dinner....If this has been answered...forgive me....WHY, immediately, did police believe that pickup was tied to the crime scene? What was found in there? Hmmmm...so many questions

If MH knew what time the school buses stopped and that the earliest GB could be home from his job was about 5:30 pm, he could have overcome each individual at a different time. We don't know if SM and KM came on the same bus, but even if they did, they might not normally reach the front door at the same time anyway. He could know a lot of things like this about the family, especially if he's been watching for weeks or months.

Welcome, dabel... It's always hard to welcome someone under the circumstances that people usually post - but glad to have you here.

I'm not familiar with that case but for some reason this case reminds me of the Chelsea King case. Can't put my finger on it, though... young girl, maybe? Perp with prior conviction - albeit different but still signs of a troubled past? Normal-looking person? Lived not too far away from abduction site? Don't know but I felt a similarity early on.

Did Tina know GB was going to spend night at friend's?

If so ... why text him to tell him she'd fed the dog? That's something you'd tell someone you expected to be home later ... JMO

B. said Herrmann texted him on his way to work at a distribution center about 80 miles away in West Jefferson about 4:40 a.m. Wednesday to let him know that she'd fed the dog. He said the dog, a miniature pinscher named Tanner, also was missing.

B. says he finished his shift 4 p.m. Wednesday and spent the night with a friend. He was playing golf on Thursday when his mother called and said something was wrong with Herrmann.

He didn't think much of it, until he returned to the house in Howard after 5:30 p.m. and found authorities there.

and the texting time changed again...I watched a vid. interview (channel 10 IIRC) where GB said he talked on the phone w/ Tina early in the a.m. then said she texted him about feeding the dog at 11a.m.

So that's why also it sounded to me that as of 11a.m. Tina didn't know that he wouldn't be home - if as someone suggested before that the feeding-the-dog-info was because she & GB worked opposite shifts...and why Hoffman would be taking a big chance being at the home in the afternoon.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm sure LE would test it anyway ... even if it "looked" nonhuman. Just wondering if someone could look at it and say, "I'm pretty sure that's canine blood."

I read about what was supposedly found at the gravel pit pond in the park also. It can be found in the comments below this article if anyone is interested. There is no confirmation to the truth though.

I believe it's because it was parked at Lisa's home Wednesday and accounted for two times, AM and PM, by police. Then it disappeared on Thursday.

IIRC, today during the presser they said that there was evidence in both vehicles, but they put testing on hold to address finding/the rescue of Sarah.

Who made the report that Tina & kids were missing...started out being the b/f.

If Sarah was the target, it doesn't make sense to barge into Tina's home at a time when there's two adults and two children at home.

It would make more sense that MH would try to kidnap Sarah at a time when she was alone at the house or just Sarah and Kody were there. He may have watched the family long enough to know that Tina usually worked Wednesdays.

He may have expected to find just Sarah or Sarah and Kody at the home, and Tina and Stephanie suddenly appeared unexpectedly.

If they knew him, even if they only knew him as the son of the people who live around the corner on Apply Valley Road, he was caught red-handed. They could identify him. He would have to do something to silence the two women before they had a chance to alert authorities.

I have the feeling that this may have been the case last Wednesday afternoon. I think Tina and Stephanie may have arrived home just moments after MH got there with the intention of kidnapping Sarah.

Whatever happened in the home that caused large amounts of blood may have been the result of of Tina and Stephanie trying to save Sarah. :frown:

It sounds like this guy's sentence wasn't long enough and didn't help him at all. The guy almost killed many people with his arson act, then he graduated to much more horrible crimes.

In 2001, Hoffman was sentenced to eight years in prison.

"I don't want to make (your sentence) too long," the judge said. "I want you to have hope and take advantage of the programs in prison."

Borders, 30, said the last time he heard from Herrmann was through a text message at 11:30 Wednesday morning, saying she had fed their miniature pinscher.


Then his mother called about noon Thursday while he was golfing to say that Herrmann and her two children were missing.

Borders said he hadn't seen Herrmann since he left for work at the Target distribution center in West Jefferson at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday. He said he spent that night at his mother's house.
