The Vicki from Laura is unrelated to this Vicki.

The part about Troy, OH investigating makes me think this is connected to Buckskin Girl. But there might not be any connection in the cases. Maybe Vicki's family saw the news about Marcia King being identified and realized they needed to report Vicki missing (or re-report to make sure it was on file). I was wondering if Vicki might have been with someone else who got arrested-- since the officer offered to bring her home that implies, IMO, that she was not arrested but maybe did not have transportation/a car to get her home. Police officers might offer to take someone home as a courtesy if the person who was their ride got arrested (JMO). But then I also notice her NAMUS profile says there are fingerprints for Vicki "available elsewhere". Could this mean she was arrested or has a history of arrest?
I am her daughter, and her maiden name was Maples. Maynard was her married name. Hasn't been seen or heard from by her family since 1973, when I was 3yrs old. Have no idea where the story that she was stopped by police and turned away in 1981....that didn't happen.

Her family lived in Union, OH...Miami County.

Welcome and thanks for joining the forum, I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother. So you’re saying 1973 is the date she was last seen, not 1981? Or is it that the family last saw her in 1973 but she had contact with others up until 1981? It obviously makes a very big difference when looking at the case.

Does your family have any theories of what might have happened that you feel comfortable sharing here?

And lastly, is there any further information you can share about your mother in terms of her appearance/distinguishing features/etc that aren’t already recorded in the missing persons websites? We often find that features can be recorded incorrectly too.

By the way, I completely understand if you don’t want to respond to these questions, I’m not trying to be intrusive, just genuinely interested in helping.

Welcome to Websleuths metonya2003. I'm sorry that your mother is missing, but you have found a great, caring community here. Thank you for sharing her maiden name. That is really helpful to know in case she went back to using it. If you think any of the info on her NAMUS Page is incorrect or if there are any other details you know that are not there, please contact the NAMUS volunteer listed there:

Missing Person Case

I hope your mother will be found someday soon so that this mystery will be solved and you can have some sense of resolution. I can't imagine how hard it was to grow up wondering what happened to her. Is there anything else about your mother that you want to share?

The only thing I know about her appearance is the dark hair and dark eyes. The last time I saw her I was three, and my picture was taken with her in my Grandparent's kitchen. It is the picture of her with the blondish wig on that they have on this website. You can see the top of my head in that picture because I was sitting on her lap. I do know that she was headed to MI, and that no one, not even friends have heard from her since 73.

I will contact NAMUS....thank you for the info! The only extra info that I have is that she was dating a man named Jerome Mitchell that owned a bar in Dayton, OH. He had family in MI...her mother suspected that she was planning on going to stay with them when she headed there. She and R. Maynard were no longer together. My grandparents later adopted me. So, her mom and dad are now my Mom and Dad. Weird, eh? lol

Hi metonya2003,
Already, you have provided some great details. I am guessing you mean this photo:
Original

I would not have known that was a wig and not her own hair. That your mom liked to wear wigs in 1973 is important to know. And that she was on her way to Michigan. Do you know why she was headed to Michigan? Did she know anyone there? Or did she say she had a job there?
Do you know anywhere that she worked before disappearing? No worries if you can't answer (or don't want to). You have already given some good details.

Edited to Add: Oh, I see you answered the question about why she might go to Michigan. Thank you.

Could this be the right guy who was your mother's boyfriend at the time? It seems he lived out his life mostly in Dayton and then moved to Florida for a few years and has now passed away View Jerome Michel's Obituary on HeraldTribune.com and share memories

Yep....that is the top of my head!! She loved wigs and make up. Her weight fluctuated...she would gain and lose. She was only 19 in this picture. She got pregnant when she was 15.

Do you know if she was hitchhiking or had him/someone take her?

I looked into the Jerome above from the orbit. His death record lists him as white..

Oh that’s so weird that there were two guys with basically the same name running bars in that town. Thanks for researching

Bumping for Vicki

It still lists Vicki's last day of contact in NamUs as April 1981.
Her daughter states above she hasn't been seen since 1973.

I also looked to see if she is listed on the Charley Project, she is not.

I know the Union city and county listed in nAMUS is throwing a curveball, went through that a couple of days ago. I have been digging around, in which lead me to wonder wether maynard was a maiden or married name.

Interesting that it was a pedestrian stop, wonder what she was doing for LE to stop her.
Maynard is her married name. Maples is her maiden name.

I'm not finding records that are for sure her. Need more info like if she was married, if Maynard was a married name or maiden name, her exact date of birth, place of birth, etc. There are several Vicki Lynn Maynards.

So far I have ruled out:
- The Vicki Lynn Maynard born in Texas who married in Vermont-- she is still alive and her yearbook pictures are also on Ancestry which helped eliminate her as being the missing Vicki.
- The Vicki L Maynard married in Franklin County, OH in May 1981. She has a death record in 1995 and it gives her middle name as a different L Name, not Lynn.
- The Vicky Lynn Maynard married in Indiana in 1973. This Vicki had a son who died in 2003 and she was listed as the informant on his death certificate. Therefore cannot be the missing Vicki.

Still trying to track down:
There is a Vicki M**re who married a Mr Maynard in Miami County Ohio in 1973 and later divorced in 1978. Divorce record says the decree was granted to the wife. (I'm not sure if this is her so starring out her maiden name). There are school pictures of a Vicki M**re in Miami County that IMO do NOT resemble the missing woman's pictures. HOWEVER with the last names being so common I can't be completely sure the school photo and marriage record are the same Vicki. The Vicki Maynard who divorced in 1978 said she was living in Darke County at that time. There is a Union City in Darke County and a Union Township in Union County, OH. There being two places named Union has already caused some confusion in this thread. The NAMUS profile simply says "Union" in Union County but I'm not sure if that county is correct. Interestingly, the investigating agency listed on NAMUS is in Troy, Ohio in Miami County..
A map for referencing where all these places are located: Troy to Union County
Maples is Vickie maiden name. Garland "Butch" Maynard is her husband name. She was 15 years old when she found out she was pregnant in 1970. She married him 3 months before the birth of their daughter. Vickie and Butch divorced in 1972. In 1973 she started dating Jerome Mitchell. He was from Dayton, Ohio but got a job in Detroit, Michigan. She told her parents once she got established their that she would come and get her daughter. That was the last time her family heard from her. The family said that the phone call from 1981 never happened. There are no records of Vickie existing after 1973. She was living a high risk lifestyle with heavy drinking and possibly other risky behavior included. I hope this information helps you. Before I forget Jerome was a black male. Back then it still wasn't socially acceptable for interracial couples to date not like it is now.
Gardener have you researched Vicki on ancestry as of yet ?
