DNA evidence has helped authorities identify a man whose skeletal remains were found more than two decades ago in a Royal Palm Beach homicide, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
Authorities say the remains belonged to Wayne Calvin Griffith, a 43-year-old man who went missing from his Ashtabula, Ohio home in early October of 1993.
His body was discovered lying face up by survey workers on Oct. 25, 1993 in brush near Southern Boulevard and just west of State Road 7, not far from the South Florida Fairgrounds.
An investigator told The Palm Beach Post in a 1993 interview that the body could have been there for as long as a month. Griffith was reported missing by his family on Oct. 1, 1993.
The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that the manner of death was homicide.
