GUILTY OH - Woman held captive in pit, neighbor arrested, Blanchester, 26 April 2017

That was probably a question asked, yes. They asked if her seizure was real.

Defense is trying to say her actions toward him led to this. That she was nice and understanding of him even though they had a history.

If you're not nice, you enrage him.
If you're nice, you encourage him.

The guy dug a hole and had a big piece of wood and a lawnmower ready to put on top so she couldn't get out. And a padlock on the shed, just in case.

During a Thursday hearing, the Clinton County Common Pleas judge set Aug. 7 as the first trial date for Dennis Dunn, 47.

Dunn’s attorney entered a not guilty by reason of insanity plea on his client’s behalf.

Before a trial, there will be a final status conference held on July 16 to go over jury protocol and other issues that need attention.

New trial ordered for southern Ohio man convicted of kidnapping neighbor, putting her in backyard pit

A new trial date for Dunn has not been set yet, Clinton County court officials said Thursday.

He was released from a state prison April 30 and taken to the Clinton County Jail, where jail officials say he was held until his release Tuesday.

The judge ordered Dunn to wear a GPS monitoring ankle bracelet and stay at home, court documents show. He can only leave after receiving permission from the court.

He’s living with his parents now, I wonder if the defense in the next trial will also use his mom’s testimony to explain the favor he was doing for his victim

“Dunn’s mother says her son put Elliott in the pit because he would do anything for her.”

This is a crazy case, but typical of rural Ohio. If you're from a family in town that is well known, you can get by with a lot of criminal activity, in some cases murder.

I can't believe they're letting this guy out of jail, but keeping people caught with a little weed locked up. Way to go Ohio.

So they released him from jail and only found him guilty of felonious assault. The penalty for that is probably minor. This guy is dangerous, JMO

The pit, which was three-and-a-half feet deep and two feet wide, was covered by a wooden board that was held down by heavy objects.

Dunn said he thought he was rescuing Elliott from her family.

He said he believed she was forced to take part in prostitution and that her family was part of a satanic cult.
Kind of reminds me of the guys in Lebanon, MO who preyed on women with addiction problems. They ended up putting one in a cage, then killed and butchered her.

Sounds like the guilty party had some delusions at the time, too. Temporarily induced or permanently on-going? I wouldn't want to be the next neighbor to figure it out.

JMO, it sounds more like a bogus excuse that the prosecutor and judge somehow believed. Or didn't care. As with the women near Lebanon, MO, there were many incidents brought to the attention of LE that went ignored.

JMO, sometimes the local criminal justice system thinks women addicts are to blame for their own situations. They don't see them as victims and view them as "dispensable". Kind of like, "Oh well, they're addicts. If not dying from torture and abuse, they would have died of an overdose, so...". JMO
